Affordability glitch: low-wage workers in some big firms could get left out in health overhaul
Washington Post ^ | June 13, 2013

WASHINGTON — It’s called the Affordable Care Act, but President Barack Obama’s health care law may turn out to be unaffordable for many low-wage workers, including employees at big chain restaurants, retail stores and hotels.

That might seem strange since the law requires medium-sized and large employers to offer “affordable” coverage or face fines.

But what’s reasonable? Because of a wrinkle in the law, companies can meet their legal obligations by offering policies that would be too expensive for many low-wage workers. For the employee, it’s like a mirage — attractive but out of reach.

The company can get off the hook, say corporate consultants and policy experts, but the employee could still face a federal requirement to get health insurance.

Many are expected to remain uninsured...

The Democrats are trying to stir up the broad masses to revolt.

I think they forgot to look around and see what environment those broad masses live in ~ they look remarkably like 19th and 20th century suburbs ~ wide open spaces, single level living, even the poor use automobiles to get around in America.

This is not 1800s Paris.

Speaking of which Detroit just went bankrupt. The goody train ground to a halt, and all anybody can say about it is 'that's one'.

And then the low-information parasites will grovel for single payer -as was The Regime’s plan all along.

I agree this has been the left's strategy all along, Obama even came right out and said how much he preferred single payer i.e. all out socialized medicine. I hope the loyal opposition has a well thought out alternative for a counter move, but my sense is that the pubbie leadership has been pretty much onboard with obamacare from the start.

Let me say this about that, even the proponents don't understand what 'single payer' is all about ~ so it's unlikely they will be able to generate an effective mass movement based on little more than a leftwingtard slogan.

Then, too, you have to keep in mind, the broad masses KNOW it was the Democrat liedershipteam that left them with the choice of paying for medical insurance they can't afford or going to prison for indefinite periods.

Why should they trust the next leftwingtard risky schemes.

The Democrats and their running dog lackeys are preparing to screw the little guy and the poor.

BTW, you don’t get far politically by denouncing the low income folks as parasites ~ just doesn’t cut it. On the other hand, if you denounce coupon clippers as parasites you can draw a fair crowd.

If people can afford health care now ,but will be priced out or cannot afford it under Obamacare, how can that be called an Affordable Health care Act?

Only in Obama’s America.

Yes, the Republicans want Obamacare. It represents power. No politician of either party can resist power. If the Republicans really didn't want Obamacare, they would have found a way to get rid of it by now...like maybe defund it? You know that won't happen.

The UK model is where we are headed. In fact the shift is already underway. Maybe you’ve heard of “concierge Service”? It’s premium service that for a fee provides access to the best physicians and medical services. The great unwashed need not apply. Those cinder block exchanges with benches for you to spend your day (after spending weeks, perhaps months) waiting to see - no, not a physician but a physicians assistant to take care of your needs. If its very serious, you’ll probably be prescribed a big ole bottle of hydrocodone and be tod not go come back, just all if you eed more pils. Die quietly and not make a fuss please :)

Like how? So long as the nation's budget is on auto-pilot, controlled by the Current Services Baseline, Obamacare is going to be funded.

To de-fund it would take the House and Senate agreeing on a budget (for the first time in five years) which de-funds it and the President signing the appropriation bills.

Not...going...to...happen...until the GOP controls the House, the Senate and the Presidency.

The left have done their damnest to undercut the standard of living for the lower and middle classes. They took a lot of fine old cars off the market with “cash for clunkers.” They’ve driven up the prices of goods due to rising fuel costs caused by limits to drilling. They’ve even made sure our light bulbs are toxic hazards and our toilets are inefficient.

When asked to define “single payer,” they responded “Baaaaa!”

The Leftwingtards imagine that by making life even tougher on the poor they can bring them into the fold.

Probably won't happen.

We have 90 million people who don't vote. The Democrat highwater mark was 69 million. Republicans pulled in 63 million once.

No, Baaaaa is not the correct answer.

Don't care and don't mess with me are more likely responses. Pushing single payer down the throats o people who don't even want you living on their street is a non starter.

It might have turned out differently, added Trautwein, if Democrats had followed traditional congressional practice and taken the House and Senate versions of the bill to a conference committee. They could have worked out such quirks. But leaders determined that path was fraught with political peril after Democrats lost their 60-vote Senate majority in 2010.

and there it is...
