U.S. Military Plan to Arm Rebels Includes No-Fly Zone in Syria

U.S. Military Plan to Arm Rebels Includes No-Fly Zone in Syria

WASHINGTON—A U.S. military proposal for arming Syrian rebels also calls for a limited no-fly zone inside Syria that would be enforced from Jordanian territory to protect Syrian refugees and rebels who would train there, according to U.S. officials.

Asked by the White House to develop options for Syria, military planners have said that creating an area to train and equip rebel forces would require keeping Syrian aircraft well away from the Jordanian border.

To do that, the military envisages creating a no-fly zone stretching up to 25 miles into Syria which would be enforced using aircraft flown from Jordanian bases and flying inside the kingdom, according to U.S. officials.

The White House is currently considering proposals to arm the rebels in Jordan, according to U.S. officials. White House National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden declined to comment on the details of those deliberations.

The limited no-fly zone wouldn't require the destruction of Syrian antiaircraft batteries, U.S. officials said.

Officials said the White House could decide to authorize the U.S. to arm and train rebels in Jordan without authorizing the no-fly zone recommended by military planners. A White House announcement could come soon, officials said.

This whole thing is a false flag to pull the country’s eyes away from the scandals surrounding this POS like the flies he adores.
It would be surprising to find out that he called his buds in the Syrian rebel group to provide “evidence” and is acting on it from there. I don’t trust, or believe, anything this POS says. Any person considering military duty under this POS needs to seek another career path. He’s evil.

This is insanity. Even after everyone in the US knew that Japan had attacked us at Pearl Harbor, FDR still made it a point to explain the need to fight to the American people. Obama needs to explain his actions to the American people. Why are we fighting in Syria? I’m well aware of Syria’s past. The Democrats wet themselves for years over the “imperialism” of us being in Panama. Now, not a peep from them for aiding the murder of Qadaffi and fighting to overthrow the government of Syria? With no explanation? Imperialism is OK if it’s Democrat imperialism?

Thank you both.

Our country spends their best and brightest and has nothing left to show for it. The world is poorer for that.

I work in DoD and a Grandma. I'm so sick that we can't win a war due to the many "political correctness" issues. I think the department is almost dysfunctional today - now Obama wants to add a new front!!! This is true treason.

I'm now reading Chris Kyle's book, who had such extreme admiration for the Marines, and it is a page turner. I'm so sorry for your loss - losing your child is the 2nd biggest sacrifice you can give to your country if you didn't lose your own life. God bless you.

Your Post #5 is spot-on.

There are no good guys over there. I’d prefer that we just stay out of it and continue to let both sides kill one another - just like we should have done in Libya.

Another opportunity to lead from behind for Obama. Will our NATO allies be in on this one too?

the Shah was evil...and Saddam Hussein...and Batista....and lets not forget that those evil Serbians killed and buried 10,000 Kosovo people in that one grave...

the point is....the devil you know vs the devil you don't know....

would the world be completely different if the Shah of Iran had remained in power?......

>>>When muzzies are slaughtering each other, why get involved?<<<

There are literally the whole Christian population and other minorities on government side as well. I don’t think it’s fair to call Assad regime a muzzie.

.... undeclared foreign intervention, Sunni putsch, to unseat him masquerading as a “civil war”, ..... and Russian SAMs are used against unauthorized foreign planes in Syrian skies, then what?

Since Day One of the Obama era, my personal fear has been that he will take us to war in an attempt to stabilize his régime and concentrate his power. Every Democrat, from the village dog warden on up, wants to be FDR.

In Obama's case, this is an update of his 2006 illegal fundraising and campaigning for the Jihadist Communist Raila Odinga in Kenya. When Odinga lost, Christians were massacred. When the Egyptian rebels won, Christians are massacred. When the Libyan rebels won, Christians are massacred. When the Tunisian rebels won, Christians are massacred. When the Syrian rebels win, Christians are massacred. Present tense, because everywhere mentioned, this is happening now.

"The last refuge of a scoundrel is patriotism." Well the Russkis have their own scoundrel and Obama will have his war.

Inside Jordan? We anticipate a Syrian attack on Jordan? The King's air force has over 60 F16s of various configurations and ground based air defenses. Why do we sell them this stuff if they're not going to use it. Only to be used against Israel, I guess.

The Russians will bring in their prime air defense gear, prep up for the US drones with various tactics, and maybe even bring some Surface-launchable cruise missiles to go after a naval group. All you need is two US fighters to get knocked down...a couple of drones to be disabled and fall out of the sky....and one near-hit on a naval ship to scare everybody back into their corner. Everyone wants to say the Russians are weak and can’t mount any kind of capability like they had in the 1980s. Maybe, but if they just had one lucky day...it’d reset the clock a bit.

I don’t blame you. And worse, an Obama “no fly zone” is bombing the opposition like they did in Libya.
