I know a single mom with 4 o twins in need of lungs. That story is repeated over and over every day on the pulmonary fibrosis boards that I visit.

To which part of the story do you refer?

People with children to raise. I chose to opt out of a transplant as I have raised my children and am a widow, If I was the one playing God, and that is what it is, I would give those lungs to the adult that has a much better chance of success and longevity

What hope? that she will come out of the procedure alive? I am so frustrated that people do not understand that just because she got “new” lungs that is going to be right with the world.

Hope of survival more that a few days, hope of enjoying more time with a young child they love and cherish, hope of watching her reach another birthday. They are aware of the challenges ahead and not naive, by any means. There will be setbacks, for sure, but to give up and not fight for a young life makes them compassionate not naive.

“A few days” This isn’t like have an appendix removed. This child will NEVER have a normal life. I really hope and pray that she will get the year that most children with shaved lungs survive. Again sounds harsh, but sometimes you just have to know when to let go. I have had to reach that place in my life, and forego the transplant. I realize that this is a child that we are talking about, but..........

I understand your point of view; I just disagree with it.
I wish you well with your medical situation.

Cystic Fibrosis is killing Sarah, not Sebiulis. If she lives another year and I hope that she does, she will beat all odds.

I got to get OUT of here. There are about 550 people that have Pulmonary Fibrosis that are on the transplant list. Half of those will die before getting the call. I walk in these shoes every day. It is very emotional for me.

> Question... what is the prognosis after lung transplant?

> Is she then cured, or does this come back?

One anecdotal data point:

I know a family with a lovely young teenage girl with CF. She got new lungs. Survived another year or two. Died a high school teenager.

God bless all the families dealing with this.

Yur not alone.. I’m borderline a list or two myself.. I’ve had an easier ride to the precipice than many.. Some who speak so crassly can trust their luck and genes they never do.. and let it go at that, and then some.. wellll.

They say no one can really appreciate life and its preCiousness until you come close to losing it or know the odds are steep and could come at any time.

Amen to that. Public policy by anecdote and feelings. Ugh.

Not quite new. Used but in good condition I would bet.

Gotta be better than what she currently has, glad she's getting her life back and sebelius can go pound sand.

What I read this week was that cystic fibrosis also compromises other organs so the prognosis is good for about 5 years only

Prayers for her, her parents and the Doctors hands. God you have worked a miracle thus far and you get all the praise and glory, thank you for opening every shut door. We ask that all goes well with this operation now for your glory. In Jesus name Amen
