McConnell to Vote for Cloture Despite Reservations About Immigration Bill [McConnell YES On Amnesty]
Weekly Standard ^ | 6/11/2013 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 06/11/2013 12:55:46 PM PDT by Alter Kaker

In a statement on the Senate floor this morning, Republican leader Mitch McConnell signaled he'd vote for cloture for the immigration bill. But he also suggested the bill needs to be amended.

"The Gang of Eight has done its work. Now it’s time for the Gang of 100 to do its work — for the entire Senate to have its say on this issue, and see if we can do something to improve the status quo. At the risk of stating the obvious, this bill has serious flaws," McConnell said, then suggesting he'd vote for cloture, the motion to proceed.

“I’ll vote to debate it and for the opportunity to amend it, but in the days ahead there will need to be major changes to this bill if it’s going to become law. These include, but are not limited to, the areas of border security, government benefits, and taxes."

McConnell then says he'll look to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for more than an "assurance":

“I’m going to need more than an assurance from Secretary Napolitano, for instance, that the border is secure to feel comfortable about the situation on the border. Too often recently, we have been reminded that as government grows it becomes less responsible to the American people, and fails to perform basic functions either through incompetence or willful disregard of the wishes of Congress. Our continued failure to secure major portions of the border not only makes true immigration reform far more difficult; it presents an urgent threat to national security.

“I’m going to need more than an assurance from Secretary Napolitano”

Perhaps a handshake or a ‘gentleman’s agreement’

What a dope!

The Democrats and Republicans both have a lot in common, they both hate the Tea Party.

We knew McConnell was a phony and a fraud. Yet he never tires of taking the opportunity to prove it.

The Democrats and Republicans both have a lot in common, they both hate the Tea Party.

Define "Tea Party." Most of the self-proclaimed "Tea Party" members in the Senate voted for cloture. They played the grassroots like suckers.

Let me guess. McConnell votes to allow the bill to come up for a vote on the Senate floor. McConnell knows the bill will pass without his “yea” vote. McConnell then votes “nay” on the bill. McConnell runs for re-election saying that he voted against this crap sandwich.

He knows the bill will fail since the Democrats will never agree to securing the border.

Dems are laughing their azzes off on twitter at these fake protestations from the GOP. Everyone with a brain knows the fix is in.

The beltway GOP has no clothes and they are too self absorbed to realize they are fooling nobody.

What planet are you on? You couldn’t be more wrong. The Dems will agree to anything because the amnesty is before enforcement. It doesn’t matter what happens on the border if there are 34 milion legal immigrants in the next 10 years.

Well, Boehner and McConnell and Graham all are in positions where they could do a lot of good for this country (USA) but instead....

they keep protecting (not even a bill of impeachment after 5 years and running!?) ... and enabling ... and funding ...
all the measures that weaken America, our economy, our defenses, and our genuine allies around the world...

New leadership is very much needed (and fast...)

Agreed...I used to think the Reps and Dems were two wings of the same party...but they are closer than that...there is one party...the big government party...their job is to take our hard earned money, pass it out to people who mostly don’t work...and then get reelected so they can continue to enrich themselves.

Anybody else notice that when Susan Rice was chosen by Barry for the NSC job...her CV indicated she is worth between 27 and 52 million bucks depending on how it’s all counted?

Has she EVER held a job in the private sector??? Just HOW did she become a multi millionaire??? They ALL seem to be millionaires.

Exactly. All they want is the amnesty.
Then, when enforcement is brought up, they will say:
“Screw you. We won.”
And John Bohner will have a good cry.
