Senate votes 82-15 in first step to debate immigration reform
The Hill ^ | June 11, 2013 | Ramsey Cox

Posted on 06/11/2013 11:55:47 AM PDT by Alter Kaker

The Senate voted 82-15 on Tuesday to end debate on a motion to proceed to a comprehensive immigration reform bill.

The Senate is expected to continue work on the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act throughout June. The next vote will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday — that will be on the actual motion to proceed to the bill.

The four Republican members of the Gang of Eight — Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Jeff Flake (R- Ariz.) — were joined by more than 20 other GOP senators in voting to advance the debate. That strong support is expected to dwindle if certain amendments aren't agreed to.

"As an elected leader in my party, it’s my view that we at least need to try to improve a situation that as far as I can tell very few people believe is working well either for our own citizens, or for those around the world who aspire to become Americans," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said ahead of the vote Tuesday. "I’ll vote to debate it and for the opportunity to amend it, but in the days ahead there will need to be major changes to this bill if it’s going to become law."

Just so people know, the MAJORITY of Republicans in the Senate — including Mitch McConnell — are now on the record supporting amnesty

Exactly. We conservatives are the RINOs. The beltway GOP and RNC have put their cards on the table.

I found it—Oliver Willis at Media Matters on Twitter

@owillis

He is quoting a few replies on this thread.

Least he could do is properly attribute the quotes, but then again he is a far left loon.

” I guranntee by early 2014 20M + illegal criminals will be new RAT voters.

The passage of this evil immigration bill by utterly evil scum in D.C. will truly be check mate for our Republic. “

It will destroy our solid middle class, and that is the ultimate goal.

Christie’s appointee Jeff Chiesa (surprise!) also voted Yes.

We’ll see how they vote this afternoon on the actual motion to proceed

“very few people believe is working well either for our own citizens”

True, sadly, the foreign citizens you seem to be voting for to give them benefits, gives not benefits to actual Americans you took an oath to protect.

This vile bill should have died a quick death in the senate. I am ready to leave the GOP for good. Let the Rats take total control and get it over with then we can rise from the ashes with a new party based on the constitution. The sooner the better. I have had it.

Milquetost Mitch is tip, tip, tip toeing through the tulips with that mealy mouth statement. What a pathetic buffoon. It would be hilarious if he wasn’t an arsonist burning down the country.

We conservatives are the RINOs.

I used that as a tag years ago (I'm a RINO.....I'm a conservative) You would not believe the lambasting I got on the Rush "live" threads for it.

I knew McConnell & Boehner would sell us out. Neither have done a peep about Obama’s criminal activities. We need a 2 million march on D.C.
