Charity Navigator is wonderful. I’ve used it to decline several and to accept several. My personal standard is that 80 percent or more of the gift goes to program services. I’ve bent that rule at 78 or 79 a couple of times, but it’s great to make a decision based on facts.
Next time I get a call like that I will say, “Wait a minute while I check to see if you are a legit operation.” Nothing like FR and my search engine. Thanks.
