Left-wing ? Anti-fascist ? Does not compute. Prayers for this misguided soul.
In a city the size of Paris, there will be brawls, and there will be fatalities. This story would not be reported so widely without the political angle.
But it is still a very sad event, and most shocking for that community. It happened on one of the big shopping streets, and many witnessed the crime.
I guess the socialist government failed to protect him, huh?
One more reason not to go out of your way to start a street argument.
They call themselves “anti-fascists”, but they are really just plain old commies sailing under another flag. I am not going to shed many tears for this guy, because in my experience, the “anti-fascist” youth groups go out looking for fights and attacking their political enemies just as often, if not more often than the nationalist/racist groups do.
If it’s France Vingt-Quatre, “fascism” is on “the right” for them.

They said that the young leftists began to shout insults at the far-right activists, who were wearing Nazi slogans and insignia.What I suspect happened is that the Lefties saw some skinheads, outnumbered the skinheads enough to feel safe in harassing them, and didn't realize that the skinheads had friends nearby.The two groups went out into the street and continued to insult each other. Reinforcements arrived for the neo-Nazis who some witnesses claim put knuckle-dusters on their fists and attaced the leftists. Mr Meric, described as a brilliant student at the elite political college Science-Po, fell to the ground bleeding from his nose and ears.
The Leftie activist didn't deserve to die, but he shows the stupidity of starting a street fight.
Odds are he started a coward’s fight, figuring that in public, and with friends, he could do so without fear of someone fighting back. They might have outnumbered the skinhead group with two males and one female.
It makes sense that the skinheads retreated at first and left the building, but on meeting more skinheads outside, they realized the advantage was theirs. Importantly, they waited outside, instead of going back inside.
In any event, there is one less loudmouth leftist in the world.
Yet we were just told by the director of ‘The Purge’ that France isn’t violent at all.
