Obama Recovery: Still 7.6 Million Jobs Below Average
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 06/07/2013 | John Merline

Although somewhat better than expected, the 175,000 net jobs created in May continues the historically tepid jobs growth trend that has come to characterize the now four-year old economic recovery. The result has been continued high unemployment, a vast pool of long-term jobless, and unprecedented number of people who've dropped out of the labor force.

Highlighting the weakness of the May report is the fact that the number of unemployed climbed by nearly the same amount as jobs created — 101,000 — nudging the unemployment rate up to 7.6%.

As a result, there are still 2.4 million fewer people working than there were in January 2008, the previous jobs peak.

This one area gives lie to any claim of the Obama Administration’s success.

Coupled with the First term scandals, coming to light early in his second term, we can easily characterize Obama as the worst president in the past 70 years.

Obama reminds me of the proverbial guy that pizzes on your leg and tells you it’s raining.

“Policy matters. If Barack Obama matched Ronald Reagan’s post-recession recovery rate, 15.7 million more Americans would have jobs.”

So 175,000 jobs were created in May. Yet every week more than 300,000 new unemployment claims are filed. How can they claim that the economy improving?

Highlighting the weakness of the May report is the fact that the number of unemployed climbed by nearly the same amount as jobs created — 101,000 — nudging the unemployment rate up to 7.6%.

On the radio this morning they reported that unemployment had edged up, but that was good because "more people are looking for work" who had been sitting out the job market.

So if unemployment numbers go down, that is good. And if unemployment numbers go up, that is also good!

It begs the question: "How many people are currently sitting out the job market because they just flat out gave up?!"
