New Jersey gun laws punish TX man for legally owned guns

Dustin Reininger is a U.S. veteran and former police officer serving 3-5 years in a New Jersey prison for possession of firearms that he legally owned. As a result of the extreme and unjust New Jersey gun laws, Reininger was convicted of illegal possession of firearms as he was passing through the state.

Dustin Reininger is not from New Jersey. He was actually moving from Maine to Texas and was driving through New Jersey when he parked his car in a parking lot to rest for the night. Reininger was awakened in the night by police officers who searched his vehicle without a warrant. This unwarranted search was deemed justified because the officer saw two gun cases in the back of the vehicle. Reininger was transporting his entire gun collection that day and was arrested immediately.

Under the Firearm Owners Protection Act, citizens are actually allowed to transport firearms from state to state regardless of the legality of the guns between departure point and destination. For full protection under this act, however, citizens must keep their firearms locked in either the trunk or a case. Reininger’s only error was keeping his firearms in an unlocked case.

“Anyone who lives in New Jersey and does not have plans to get out needs an intervention”

State employees are required now by state law to live in NJ.

NJ gun laws are draconian at best, tending toward stalin/kgb laws. You are not supposed to stop anywhere else on route to or from a gun range, even if the guns are in a locked case,in a locked trunk. Yet we have Camden, Patterson, Newark and even Trenton cowering under gang guns & murders. http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/newjersey.pdf

“..It is said that in the 30’s Hitler copied the uniform design of the NJ State Police for the SS uniforms....”

Hugo Boss designed the German SS uniforms.

Similar, maybe, but I think that’s a bit of a stretch...

lets all face it.

The north east is a different country, I;ve been up there and it felt like I was in a twilight zone.

The laws, the prices, the attitudes, they way they fdrive, the middle finger to people, the arrogance and ignorance and it is homo, pro illegal, anti family, high tax and anti gun.

Why anyone still lives up there is beyond me, Yea I hear the usual of family , work etc but my wife is form there and she left it all behind looked for another job, left her family and now lives more free in north east FL

Stay.
Away.
Far away.
From that sickening toilet.
New Jersey.

Just stick your nose in the air and steer AWAY from the stench.

he did have a loaded handgun within reach of the driver, which is illegal in most states, not just Joisy.

So what? It was illegal to be educated in PolPot's Cambodia. It was a death sentence to be a Jew in Hitler's Germany. It was a 10 year sentence in Siberia to be considered counterrevolutionary in the former soviet union.

The constitution doesn't say the right to keep and BEAR arms is restricted to the government and its goons.

Not here in Texas. We have what's called Castle Doctrine.

I somewhat struggle with the cultural situation involving Islamic adherents. Don’t think that I am not realistic about what a threat they represent though.

The problem for me is that there are many Islamic adherents in our nation. Most are just trying to get along in life for the most part.

Even then there’s an insidious problem that is growing though.

Christianity has lived in peace along side the Jewish faith and a number of others on our soil. We each respected each other’s members and beliefs, and things were peaceful and harmonious.

In comes the Islamic adherents and all of a sudden there is push-back across the board. Christianity is now under fire and must make concessions everywhere. That is wrong. If people want to come to our country and live in harmony, then fine, do so. If they want to come here and make us change to make them comfortable, no way.

So even though there is only a small percentage of these people who carry out acts of terrorism, the fact that they are here at all, is very corrosive of our culture.

We are having to change our nation in ways we haven’t had to in over 230 years. That isn’t right.

So when someone from the Justice Department references us putting down the followers of Islam, they have it completely 180 degrees back asswards.

Is is not us who is demeaning the followers of Islam.

It is the followers of Islam who are demeaning and disrespecting the Followers of Christ, Christianity.

Enough already!

Then do a prisoner exchange for this poor man

That would not be necessary if Rick Perry had not signed his extradition papers to begin with.

Surprisingly, New England is pretty pro-gun. Only RI refuses to issue carry permits to anyone who does not complete their redundant, spiteful, Libtard qualification course that one has already passed in other states.

You must also "document a need" for a weapon before RI will let you have one.

Simple solution to the problem. Texas, Maine, and other states that think New Jersey citizens are idiots for their laws should make them pay. When traveling through other states with a NJ plate, LE pull them over and search them for any violation of the law they can find. NJ shows they, like NY, are not similar thinking states of these United States and should be treated as such.

I was just thinking that ticketing NJ drivers in Texas for failing to have a Texas driver’s license (make it a special felony) would be an equivalent breach of “full faith and credit” statutes.

As the last sentence of the post and the attached link affirm, you MUST know the law in the states you are transiting, whether or not they are reciprocal to your state, OR abide by the Federal law if you don’t. I’m not arguing for the NJ ridiculous laws and prosecution of the individual BUT, plain and simple, responsible gun owners need to be familiar with appropriate firearms laws if they want to ensure the can stay out of trouble or at least have the law on their side. I have a CHL and am planning to travel to one of the f****d up states (no option) later this year and even though I know the laws, I’m still scared sh!tl3ss to take my firearm along. Sad state of affairs! And BTW, the RINO a$$h0l3 Fatso is too busy sucking up to the Kenyan to pardon this unlucky individual.

This is precisely why, when we moved from MA back to TX, I headed west and then down through Hartford -- to completely avoid most of NY & completely avoid NJ.

There was no way I was going to trust a moving van with certain of my weapons.

If you must go through NJ, never stop there!

Furthermore, unless the situation changes radically, I'm staying south of the Mason-Dixon line for the remainder of my days...
