Senate Passes Bill Making the Harassment of a Police Officer a Crime
New York State Senate ^ | 6 Jun 2013

The New York State Senate today passed a bill that creates the crime of aggravated harassment of a police or peace officer. The bill (S.2402), sponsored by Senator Joe Griffo (R-C-I, Rome) would make it a felony to harass, annoy, or threaten a police officer while on duty.

“Our system of laws is established to protect the foundations of our society,” Senator Griffo said. “Police officers who risk their lives every day in our cities and on our highways deserve every possible protection, and those who treat them with disrespect, harass them and create situations that can lead to injuries deserve to pay a price for their actions.”

The bill establishes this crime as a Class E Felony, punishable by up to four years in prison.

Bingo, we have a winner. Got to stop the video taping of the police. The police can make up any excuse (after they seize your camera) and then it’s their word against yours .... and you know that their word is worth more within the system.

I think that you have spotted the same tendency that I have over the last several years. Every misdemeanor is now being elevated to felony status. Possession of a single bullet is a felony, possession of a rifle magazine (even without the rifle) is a felony, etc. All of these felonies then involve revocation of you voting rights and more importantly your rights to own weapons.

Just last week I annoyed a cop by telling him that he was being absurd for giving me a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.

There should be a Master's Thesis on the evolution of tyranny in this country.

Just read the major newspapers between 1955 and 1965, when installation of seat belts was made mandatory for the manufacturers, but wearing them would NEVER be mandatory.

The persuasion was based entirely on the survival instincts of the average person, in having the option of wearing them. If the heavy boot of the wannabe tyrants had suggested otherwise, the bill would have never passéd. Now, it's just another "revenue enhancement."

Just like the Income Tax, but that's another story...

Remember the friendly, catchy little "Buckle Up For Safety!" jingle?

Now, the commercial is the gravel-voiced JackBoot: "KlickItErTicket!!!"

We've come a long way, baby - on the road to tyranny, as you said, publius.

You have to strike, shove or kick the officer.

Yes, and Officer Cartman isn't known for invading a peasant's personal space. /sarc

Cops have become the tools of the State. They will follow orders to the end. Just like the good Kapos in the Concentration camps or the Polizie in German cities.

Amazing how the Founders got along for DECADES without any cops...

Now, we have an occupying army who solved the problem of the Third Amendment by forcing the peasants to pay them $50 an hour so they could buy some swell digs, instead of having to move in to the substandard housing of the peasant scum.

In NY, until the early 60’s, one was able to “PHYSICALLY RESIST” what he thought was an “Unlawful Arrest”. “We’ve come a long way, baby”- towards totalitarianism
