Steve Lonegan is running for senator.

Fellow movement conservative leader state Sen. Mike Doherty (R-23) met with Lonegan today and decided to throw his support behind Lonegan.

Following his meeting with Doherty, Lonegan said he plans to do it.

"Not only am I running," Lonegan told PolitickerNJ.com, "but I’m going to win. We’re going to regalvanize the Republican base."

The leading conservative senator in the state legislature, Doherty told PolitickerNJ.com that he doesn’t agree with the governor’s chosen timeline for a special election and calls it exclusionary.

“It’s very difficult to get the petitions done by Monday,” the senator said. “I disagree with his decision to have an election in October. This should be held on Nov. 4th. We want maximum participation.

Democrats Line Up for Senate Special Election #NJSEN
At least two Democratic members of Congress from New Jersey are likely to run in the special election to fill the remaining term of the late Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, D-N.J.

No one has officially entered the race yet; Lautenberg’s funeral was held Wednesday and he’ll be buried on Friday. But the Monday deadline to file petitions to make it onto the Aug. 13 primary ballot is forcing potential candidates to move quickly behind the scenes.

The GOP field remains murky, but the Democratic field is shaping up to include Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Reps. Frank Pallone Jr. and Rush D. Holt.

Lautenberg might have been that one precious vote for the immigration bill.

Christie would rather be fair. Chris Christie Positions Himself for the 2016 Democrat Presidential Primary

RUSH: Governor Christie of New Jersey. Let me tell you something, folks. This act of his to throw this open Senate seat because of the death of The Lout to an open election in New Jersey? Ha! I'm just gonna tell you something. I will not be surprised... I'm not predicting it officially here, but I will not be surprised, if when 2016 rolls around and Governor Christie is seeking the presidency, I won't surprised if he seeks the Democrat Party nomination.

OK, so now we have to put up with this guy who we’ve had to put up with every time there’s a damn election; he never wins but he never seems to get another job. This is infuriating on so many levels.

Lautenberg’s term would have been over in 2014.

Why couldn’t Christie have appointed someone until the election in 2014? That’s what Corzine did when he appointed Menendez to fill his old Senate seat.

And if he was bold, he could have appointed Lonegan to that position.

Lautenburg was probably given some special sauce in the hospital so he died just before the primary that triggered the law.

I really like Lonegan..however, instead of “regalvanizing” the GOP..maybe we should work to “Reaganize” it instead..

Krispy Kreme sh7ts the bed again.

This guy has as much chance of beating Booker as Whorealdo. Might divert some money though.

Nope. Not after this week. Even the Democrats are pissed at him now. He would have picked Booker had he desired running for the Democratic Nomination for President in 2016. After his last decision, he is doomed in the Republican and Democratic run.

I hear Lonegan’s ads occasionally, agree with him so far as I remember. I think the ads are easily understood.
