Federal Workers Racked Up $29 Billion, Yes Billion! In Charges In 2012

There was, arguably, an important overlooked point in an audit last week that showed the Internal Revenue Services’ “lack of aggressive steps” in addressing misuse of government-issued credit cards IRS employees use when traveling.

Almost a side note in the report by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration was the fact that in fiscal 2011 the IRS travel card program had issued about 52,000 individually billed travel card accounts. That’s more than one card for every two IRS employees, a workforce that totaled 97,717 staffers at the end of 2012.

The first question: Why does the IRS need so many credit cards? At a total of $121 million in related charges in fiscal 2011, that’s a lot of travel on the taxpayer’s dime – much of which was spent auditing taxpayers.

Add those to Medicare fraud, the corruption of those on disability who could be working at other jobs!
Yep!
Clean up some of the fraud and we’ll be out of the red sooner rather then later!

A. Lincoln, like him or not, had some choice & prescient words about people like the IRS.
He was constantly hounded by them. Regarding the “rapacity of the office seekers”:

“The human struggle and scramble for office, for a way to live without work, will finally test the strength of our institutions.”

But we agree with them on one thing. They feel they have it coming, entitled as if they were dot com start-up entrepreneurs who hit it big. Yeah, they’ve got it coming ...

The Framers described it actively: “eating out our substance.”
Yeah, strong words.

where is the outrage my member of the House Way and Mean committee? How about Oversight committee? Wait, they have let credit card bills go for YEARS because they are in on the game? Do you wonder how many staffers have “.gov “ credit cards?
