IRS Commissioner Aided Tax Cheat Congressman

And the Liberal Dog Whistle Blows.

Congressman Charles Rangel of New York.

Ex-IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman.

The new chairman of the president’s Council on Economic Advisors, Jason Furman.

And George Soros, Media Matters, Gail Furman — Jason Furman’s mother — and Susan Anderson, Douglas Shulman’s wife. Did I mention President Obama, Valerie Jarrett, Joe Biden — and a post-IRS job for Douglas Shulman? A job he has now had to give up in the wake of the IRS scandal.

Did I mention Fox News?

Let’s get to it.

January 30, 2009.

The New York Post headlined the story this way:

IRS BIG PAYS RANGEL A VISIT

Wrote the Post (bold print for emphasis):

The IRS’s top man came to Harlem — and shared a stage with an accused tax cheat, Rep. Charles Rangel.

Commissioner Douglas Shulman and other officials yesterday urged New Yorkers to get the most out of their tax returns.

Asked about appearing with a pol who’s being probed for failing to pay taxes, Shulman said, “He’s one of the leaders in this country on tax policy issues. I work closely with him every day, and I’m honored to be on this stage with him.

You read that right.

Any of these scandals is bigger than Watergate, yet look at the media yawn.

It’s odd that Rangel is the only Dem so far to criticize the IRS. I don’t know if this was to deflect from himself (Charlie Rangel, famous tax cheat) or if perhaps he had a moment of morality. I lived in his district in Upper Manhattan and initially he was actually was very good and seemed to be concerned about everybody of any color and was particularly interested in stopping the drug gang invasion.

But then I guess he got on the DC gravy train, particularly because of his (marginally visible) race. Sad, because he could have been better than he was.

This is another piece of a big part of the IRS crimewave. Not only did Shulman meet with Furman over at the WH, the IRS Chief Council, William Wilkins also met with Furman in mid December 2012:

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/350139/irs-chief-counsel-subject-investigators-probe-made-nine-wh-visits-eliana-johnson

More background on how the House investigators have requested the hard drives of Wilkins and those of a whole bus load of IRS lawyers:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3026877/posts

The investigation is widening, and getting closer to the WH.

Wilkins was also the lawyer that bailed out Jeremiah Wright’s heretical church in Chicago back in the 1990’s I believe.

The Furman family has strong ties to Soros as well. The American Spectator article details those.

I wonder if we should stop targeting the pols and really ride on the media? Put some of our own in the media....if its the media that is the dealmaker,,,then that’s who we should be breaking down. Just my humble opinion

I’ve been thinking the same thing. They may be the biggest power weilding “kingmaker” in our country. Why isn’t the media being held accountable?

Maybe we need to start protesting the lying, scummy, bought off, cowardly media!

Jack French Kemp used to gush over “my friend Charlie Rangel.” Ditto “my friend Al Gore.”

It’s odd that Rangel is the only Dem so far to criticize the IRS.

Notice though that Rangel is saying that it all just came out of the Cincinnati office. Rangel is a willing participant in misleading information.

I want that little smug lying crook in JAIL!

Rangel is putting out information that is at least 2 weeks old. I think the whole purpose of this is to try to make fall guys out of a (a) low level people and (b) a particular office.

It’s not going to work. The low level people have already said thanks but no thanks, and the office is clearly not an autonomous structure that can make its own decisions, so there’s no way this could have happened without oversight from headquarters. WHerever that may be...

IRS chief counsel William Wilkins, one of subjects of Congress’s invesetigation into the agency’s targeting of tea-party groups, visited the White House nine times since 2010, according to the administrator’s visitor access records.

In April 2012, Wilkins attended a small meeting with President Obama in the Roosevelt Room, though records do not indicate the subject of the meeting. The private events on the president’s schedule for that day, aside from the presidential daily briefing, are an 11:00 a.m. meeting with senior advisers and a 4:45 p.m. meeting with former secretary of state Hillary Clinton. It is unclear which of these meetings Wilkins attended, if either, or if his meeting with the president simply did not appear on Obama’s public schedule.

Wilkins also visited the White House in previous years, attending what appears to be a large event on December 15, 2012; the following day, December 16, he was present at a small meeting with then–deputy director of the National Economic Council Jason Furman, who is now the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers. In August 2011, Wilkins also met with Jamal Pope, who identifies himself as a special assistant for White House initiatives at the Department of Commerce. Wilkins’s other visits were for large events that extended to all administration appointees. Knowing what Wilkins discussed in his meetings with the president and with administration officials Furman and Pope would shed light on whether the Obama administration directed the IRS to discriminate against conservative groups.

National Review Online on Monday reported that Congress is probing the hard drives of Wilkins, his two deputies, and 14 other lawyers. Wilkins is the only presidentially appointed employee at the agency apart from the commissioner himself. Before joining the IRS, he served on the Democratic staff of the Senate Finance Committee and, while in private practice at a Washington law firm, represented pro bono Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Chuch against charges from the IRS that it was abusing its tax-exempt status.
