In 35 years as Manhattan DA, Robert Morgenthau has gotten along with every mayor of New York -- except the current one. Mike Bloomberg, says Morgenthau, "doesn't want anybody around who doesn't kiss his ring, or other parts of his body." In a wide-ranging interview with the Wall Street Journal, the 90-year-old, who leaves office Thursday, addresses everything from his feud with the mayor to the international crimefighting role his office has played during his tenure. As usual, he pulls no punches:
On enforcing economic sanctions against Iran and its business partners: "The president is smoking pot or something if he thinks that being nice to these guys is going to get him anywhere."
On convicting octogenarian Anthony Marshall of stealing from his mother, socialite Brooke Astor: The verdict "sent a message all over the country: You can't steal from your elders."
On parking money offshore to evade taxes: "You're never going to see them reduced unless everybody pays what they're required to pay under the law."

Had hope for the guy until I got to this point.
Where I park my money is my business. The government's experiment in pillaging our hard work has failed miserably. If they repealed the 16th amendment, we could get this country back to where it belongs. Bottom line: never happen.
being 90 years old does have certain advantages....
That would depend on what he means. He may not mean it in a socialist sense, but rather in the way that the very rich have paid off politicians to manipulate the tax system so that they pay few taxes, dumping the burden onto the middle class.
If that’s the case, that is reasonable.
I interpreted his comments the same way you did.
That is simply veiled leftist BS.
The rich pay a LOT of taxes. We need more rich people, not less. And the richer the better.
I tend to agree with you.
I’m not talking about trying to bleed the rich. I’m talking about putting everybody on the same page in terms of the rate they pay and that everybody functions under the same rules, with nobody getting any sort of deductions that is not available to anybody else.
You don’t really think the tax code is 73,000 pages long, because the government wants a fair tax system, do you?
