It is called Block Captains. Yeah, they were called "Blockwarte" in Nazi Germany.
I imagine that in the good ole U.S. of A., they'd have a life expectancy of about 24 hours.

“Yes, they will follow orders. Name a time of tyranny that they didnt.”
There are dozens of examples of the troops refusing to follow orders all over Eastern Europe, including the former Soviet Union. The most recent example was Libya in 2011 when Qaddhafi ordered his troops to fire on Libyans, and they refused. 75% of them deserted and took Qaddhafi and his mercenary army down.
For some reason, there’s small bunch of FReepers here who believe our soldiers and Marines are Nazi gestapo.

You think some Captain flying an F-22 with his wing man, Tex is going to obliterate Houston because he was ordered to do so?"Tex is going to drop back to lead six and acquire and fire. Then land in Houston a hero.

History suggests that a unified and ruthless armed force can subjugate a hostile population with approximately 1:100 ratio of fighters to civilians. Only if those civilians are unarmed. Name one instance where an armed population was overwhelmed by a military force so much smaller than itself. It has never been done.

Y’all do realize that during the recovery efforts after Katrina, the government sent in police and other law enforcement agencies (in force) from wayyyyyyyyy far away...
That made it easier to justify the crackdowns they were experimenting with during that time...No real relationships with the indigenous civilian population...

Not all but many are. Many have formed “support” groups and stay in constant contact.

Name one instance... There aren't any.
You are probably correct in your general conclusion that there are too many armed civilians for the Federal government to sustain a campaign of forcible subjugation,
That will not stop the Progressives from trying.
Progressives don't do math. They are grabbing for the gold ring of permanent rule over this country, and with every failure, they simply redouble their efforts. They will continue in this direction until they are removed from any positions of power. And they will not step down voluntarily.
This sort of miscalculation guarentees that events will go badly for everyone. There are plenty of contemporary examples of how this develops. Check the story in Yugoslavia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina, Mexico, Egypt, or Syria for some of the more extreme details.
There is a wealth of learning experiences in those stories. Of course none of that could ever happen here...

Walk into any college classroom and continue walking into any office infested with fat federal bureaucrats, then get back to us on whether or not you’d be comfortable going onto a hostile battlefield with those people.
I look forward to your answer.

It is called Block Captains. Take the meanest, nastiest, liberal that you can find on each block and every apartment building, give them an armband and a radio. Hand them a sheet of rules for martial law. Tell them if anyone gets out of line to call and the offender will be shot on sight or arrested and tortured later. After a few block captains show up dead or just plain disappear, it might be hard to get more volunteer libs.
