California lawmakers OK a dozen gun-control measures

SACRAMENTO — California lawmakers Wednesday advanced a dozen gun-control measures, including background checks for ammunition buyers, and gave early approval to a tax penalty on the Boy Scouts for barring openly gay leaders.

Californians who want to buy ammunition would have to submit personal information and a $50 fee for a background check by the state, under a bill passed by the Senate.

The Senate also OK'd a bill that would outlaw the sale, purchase and manufacture in California of semiautomatic rifles that can accommodate detachable magazines. The measure, SB 374 by Steinberg, also would require those who own such weapons to register them with the state.

The Assembly joined the action on guns by passing a measure to require the state Department of Justice to notify local law enforcement agencies when someone buys more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition. The bill would also ban kits that convert magazines to carry more than 10 rounds and would extend a ban on gun ownership for anyone who conveys a serious threat of violence to a licensed psychotherapist.

I only found FMK in Placentia. Looks like they’ll have to move if they can’t manufacture.

Time to take up arms and oppose a repulsive and repressive state. A little revolution every once in a while is a good thing.

How did it ever come to this?

How? Because we haven’t had a little revolution every once in a while.

Doesn’t making thousands of gun owners criminals retro-actively violate some Ex Post Facto legal provision?

It is impossible to beat communists. They have California and the rest of the Country under their communists control and no way to stop it. So enjoy being a slave to the new America.

You know they are liberal when they are dancing in the blood of babies spewing their beliefs.

With a false tear and a smug grin.

Let me guess: since there would then be a $50 fee to buy ammo, no one would ever buy single boxes ever again, but only by the case (to divide the cost of the fee).

Nope. What will happen is that sales of ammo in CA will drop to almost nothing, and sales of ammo in Oregon, Nevada and Arizona will skyrocket. Take that to the bank. Also, more normal Americans will leave CA.

For the rest of us, the people who live in semi-free states, the ammo available to us should increase.

I've been able to find ammo in stock in Idaho. Nothing in rimfire, but small quantities of common rifle and handgun centerfire cartridges.

I always figured that when the voters of Cali turned down Prop 15, (to ban handguns in California) back in 1982 it meant that all handguns were still legal no matter how many cartridges they held. To me, that means the firearm itself along with it’s magazines and ammo.

It appears the politicians have been working trying to find a way around the voter’s rejection of the handgun ban.

remember that the state penalty for owning and using a machinegun will be no different.

Well, there you have it. I predict an ugly, ugly, ugly outcome from this.
