300 BOY SCOUT FAMILIES LOSE SPONSOR, KENTUCKY MEGA-CHURCH BACKS OUT OF BOY SCOUT PROGRAM

Actions have consequences. In this case, the Boy Scout organization’s decision to even debate acceptance of open homosexuality has provoked Southeast Christian Church, a church of 30,000, to pull its charter of Troop 212.

Southeast Christian Church did not pull its sponsorship and involvement over the recent vote by the Boy Scouts to allow openly homosexual youth to participate. The Church pulled its sponsorship over the Boy Scouts organization’s act of debating the idea of allowing open homosexuality. This is confirmed by the fact the Church actually notified the Boy Scouts earlier in the year before the vote took place.

they the boy scouts became cowards and sold out to north east money and I hope the south, the Midwest and AK now set up their own boy scouts away from this absurd insanity

Hopefully, Christian churches will form their own programs, based on what BSA was before the homosexuals took over.

If they did so, this would be the likely battle:

The BSA, smarting from the massive financial and membership fallout from this horrendous decision, would become extremely aggressive toward competitors. Any vague similarity of alternative boy's organizations to the Scout's program would be legally attacked as a trademark infringement. This would be a legal firestorm in the making.

My personal recommendation is that groups withdraw from scouting without making ANY moves to mimic the old scouting model, for now. I hold out hope that the implosion will be so calamitous and complete, and rapidly so, that real conservatives can soon re-inhabit the old Scout brand anew, with a sodomite-proof resolve.

"Look to see of there are any Baden-Powell Scout troops in your area."

How would B-P Scouts be any better? They are already atheist and amoral regarding sexuality. This is a serious question as my charter is looking at alternatives. Others have recommended BPS too. I looked at their info, but it looks more like BSA's future than a return to traditional scouting.

I foresee new independent scout groups forming outside of the BSA. Something like Trail Blazers, or Religious Youth or what ever name sounds right. Not the Komsomol or the HJ.

The problem is, how can they compete with the resources that BSA can provide...and the problem is that if they do get sponsors, the gays will come right after them, as well. And schools won't support them....I remember growing up when Scouts will proudly wear their uniforms to school, not anymore. Our Troop currently meets at a public school.

The church gets it. The debate itself opened the door. BSA just committed suicide.

I'm wrestling with that same decision, myself. I don't see the logic in punishing my son (it's not punishment, but he'd see it that way) because of the actions of an unrelated handful of loudmouthed deviants, clamoring for normalcy.

And, frankly, I'm not too concerned about "gay scouts"...it's the homosexual lobby's desired endgame of "gay scoutmasters" that really concerns me. "Gay Scouts" is just the camel's nose under the tent - that's why I didn't support it.

We're fortunate in that we live in a small, tight-knit, conservative community, so this decision is unlikely to have much of an immediate effect. Next year will be fine, likely the year after as well. Beyond that.......

Some of the other choices that I've considered are getting (more) involved; I don't need to worry about a gay scoutmaster if *I* am the scoutmaster. Also looking into serving on the committee to choose successors, re-organizing the troop, and also dropping Scouts entirely and going to an alternative program.

At this point, I just don't know. I've got the summer to chew it over and look into all the options. I damn the gay lobby, and I hate that I even need to consider something that frankly, 20 years ago, I couldn't have conceived of.

My concern is more with the reputation of scouting.

I remember growing up when Cub Scouts would proudly wear their uniforms to school...as a non-Scout, I would sometimes be envious of them.

These days you rarely see that.

Yeah, I posted about that, last week. Ours is the last generation where the term "Eagle Scout" means someone of integrity, who's utterly uncorruptable.

It's going to get turned into something that inspires a chuckle and a smirk, sort of like "Clinton and Lewinsky".

Which, I suppose is the gay lobby's endgame, anyway.

How exactly, do you explain this to a seven year old? "Well, the Scouts had these values. But they were inconvenient, and made some bad publicity for a few people, so the Scouts changed their values completely..... Well, yes, I know what I told you about 'integrity'..... Of Course, you should still have integrity.... No, I don't know why the Scout leaders didn't...... Well, yes, I said that they were people of integrity and should be respected and listened to..... "

And so on. I've not had this complicated conversation yet, and I'm not looking forward to it.

When I was a kid, we wore our uniforms to school, met for pack meetings at the school, presented the colors for the school. Then scouting was kicked out of the school for not going gay. Now they will get kicked out of the church for going gay.

Whatever "new" group is formed, they will be attacked the same way the BSA was.

I agree with you 100% wbill. Some sanctimonious idiot flamed me on FR over the weekend because by not leaving immediately, in his eyes, I joined the enemy (his words). My response was that when he gives 10-15 hours a week in volunteer time and has two boys who have worked for 8-10 years to earn Eagle, including one who just needs to finish his project, then he has the right to judge me. Till then, he can shut up.

I was proud to be a Scoutmaster. I’m not sure I can in good conscience wear the uniform any more. I am ashamed of the organization. Our troop is strongly Christian and mostly home educated kids. Me and the Committee Chair are meeting with our church sponsor tomorrow night to discuss the future. I suspect we’ll continue for a year or so then join one of the new groups. There is a brand new one setting the stage.

My children and I were in BSA and Indian Guides from the YMCA here in California.

Always attacked by white liberals and “native americans” that having tribes and dressing up as tribes was racist.

It took ten years for Canadian Boy Scouting to lose 57% of its members. Given the differences between the two countries it won’t take ten months to fall that much here. This is just the beginning.

I was thinking about Scouts for Christ. It would be for boys and girls but separated by gender and focused on service towards others.

And then how long until the lawsuits start because they're only offering two gender choices?

I was a member of the Young Men's Christian Association's Indian Guides, the Cub Scouts and then the Boy Scouts, where I reached the rank of Life--one rank below Eagle.

When it comes to building character and socialization, these organizations were invaluable. Sadly, the Indian Guides was destroyed by political correctness. Naturally, it was "racist," despite the fact that it taught respect for American Indians and their cultures and that it engaged in projects such as toy drives for needy Indians living on reservations. Of course, it was also "sexist," since it only involved fathers and sons.

Some years ago, the YMCA decided to ditch the Indian Guides because of these PC concerns. and now the Boy Scouts have gone sodomite. I feel so fortunate to have experienced childhood before the PC nazis came on the scene.

I am a Scoutmaster. Our meeting was held the night of 5/23. I tended my resignation effective 12/31/2013, or sooner if the Troop Committee sees fit. My two sons, one 6 months from Eagle and the other about 1 year away from Eagle, also said that they are leaving on that date. The son who is close to his Eagle is trying to decide if it is worth the work for a hollow award.

My older son also said that he must choose between being true to the Scout Oath and Law as they are intended, or remain in Scouting, they are no longer the same.

We choose the Oath and Law.

We have to stand up for our morals. Remaining in Scouting is offering support for their cowardly stand on this issue.

As for the youth only part of this. Scouting is a youth led organization. There will be open and avowed homosexual youth in your leadership roles. These leadership roles are often admired and looked up to by the younger scouts. Imagine a 17 year old Life scout and an Webelo who just crossed over. That Webelo will look up to the older Scout. Would you really want that Scout to be an open and avowed homosexual. Also at camps many of the positions are held by older Scouts who are under 18.

The homosexual adult leaders are coming and that will happen very soon. Multiple councils have already said that they will be in open defiance of this policy and allow open and avowed adult homosexuals.

Some here seem to think that this church pulled it's backing of the Scouts because of the B.S.A. decision to allow homosexual scouts. That is not the case:

Southeast Christian Church did not pull its sponsorship and involvement over the recent vote by the Boy Scouts to allow openly homosexual youth to participate. The Church pulled its sponsorship over the Boy Scouts organization’s act of debating the idea of allowing open homosexuality. This is confirmed by the fact the Church actually notified the Boy Scouts earlier in the year before the vote took place.

That's the church's moral high ground.
