How The Obama Gun Boom Pushed The Fortune Of Two Brothers To $1.2 Billion (Cabelas)
Forbes ^ | June, 2013 issue | Nathan Vardi

Posted on 05/23/2013 6:05:21 PM PDT by dynachrome

Shares have increased by 95% in the last year and are up more than 70% already in 2013. That makes Cabela’s stock the best-performing in the firearms industry and one of the top-performing stocks in the U.S. in the last year. The company’s two biggest shareholders, founders Richard and James Cabela, have seen the value of their combined 25% stake jump to $1.2 billion from $750 million at the start of 2013.

About one-third of Cabela’s $3.1 billion in sales last year came from firearms, ammunition and accessories, and a substantial amount of its all-important sales growth came from its gun business. Cabela’s first-quarter 2013 same-store sales growth was 24%, but it was only 9% excluding firearms and ammunition. The company set a new record for first-quarter revenue, which increased 28.7% to $802.5 million.

Cabelas needs to sit back and think about their products.

I’ve been buying cloths from them for decades.

They’ve moved a lot of their cloths production to third world countries, changed the design and fabrics and now have a terrible problem with size quality control.

After a bad experience with a pair of Guide Wear pants I started reading the reviews and was a little surprised at the number of negative comments from long time buyers.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. I wear a lot of Cabela khakis, and lately, the sizing accuracy and general quality of the fabrics have diminished significantly.

Yeh, those darn Asians haven’t been able to properly size clothes for years. I’ve had a perfect 33 waist for decades, but those Asians are now making pants way, way too small. Their scales don’t work properly, either.

I don’t see how they can be making any money now, everything I want to buy online is “out of stock” and can’ be back ordered. I use to shop there online site often but gave up a few months ago.

"I’ve had a perfect 33 waist for decades...."

Same here.

But the only pants that fit me have a "40" on them.

Must be some kind of metric thing.

Jokes aside they are really taking a hit on their Polo Shirts. Used to be three button and they went to two buttons.

I used to like to order the 2XL Tall pocket shirts with 3 buttons.

After reading the reviews I’ll wait a while. One guy ordered two shirts the same size and compared them - the length was off by 4 inches between them.

It’s not Calebras or those darn Asians....

It’s the Calories......

The Calories are a unique South American pygmy tribe that migrated to America many years ago. They live in the back your closet and when, at night when your asleep, sew your clothes smaller....

Hope this helps!

20 years ago I was trying on some very nice Honda riding gloves. I have small hands and I was having trouble squeezing my hand into a glove marked “large.” I guessed the Japanese must still be very small people or they have a strange notion about how big Americans are..

I spoke with “Nan” at Cabelas yesterday. We need one somewhere in NC. I have 4 Academy sports within 200mi and a Bass Pro within 5mi.

SMKW is still a major I shop from. Cabelas just isn’t east coast. They should be flush with cash to make the move.
