Senate Panel Approves Arms for Syrian Rebels

WASHINGTON - A Senate panel voted Tuesday to provide weapons to rebels battling the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the first time lawmakers have endorsed the aggressive U.S. military step of arming the opposition.

...

"The greatest humanitarian crisis in the world is unfolding in and around Syria," said Sen. Robert Menendez (D., N.J.), the committee chief. ". . . The United States must play a role in tipping the scales toward opposition groups and working to build a free and democratic Syria."

Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, the panel's top Republican, implicitly criticized the Obama administration as he joined Menendez in embracing the measure. "Much of the policy on Syria has been done on an ad hoc basis," Corker said. Opposing the legislation were Sens. Rand Paul (R., Ky.), a potential presidential candidate, and Democratic Sens. Tom Udall of New Mexico and Chris Murphy of Connecticut.

"It's impossible to know who are friends are," Paul said. His arguments put him at odds with another potential White House candidate - Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, who backed the legislation.

And they’re billing us, the American taxpayers.

Why not, we’re paying for every other bogus, dipsh*t program Obama proposes and his dumb, impotent, incontinent lapdogs in congress approve.

Rand Paul is right. Arming these maniacs is a HUGE mistake. They’ve already murdered our ambassador and begun their offense agaimst Christians. And we want to give them weapons?

Sen. Robert Menendez is obviously a complete blithering idiot unable to perceive the world and understand just what in the Wide World of Sports is really going on. Anyone making a statement like that after events in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya should not be entrusted with car keys, let alone a vote in the Senate and a committee chairmanship.

Milindustrial complex at it again, refreshing their treasury for more blood-letting profits.

No government should be allowed to bear arms.

There is NOT going to be any Muslim democracy in Syria. Why are we supplying alQuaeda?

Bizarro world indeed: Americans and Christians will now be slaughtered with US supplied arms and monies. Obama’s new world will be a Greater Caliphate from Tunesia to Turkey purged of all those troublesome Copts, Shia, Jews and plain old secular dictators while alqaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood and other transnational Islamic terrorists throw a party with Obama supplied goodies.

The Senate is the worse. The Senate moves by political correctness and these old old men there who need to retire already so the younger people can come in to carry on the fight. These old men lose their will to fight to where we see them going along with the liberals. What ground we do gain, we fall back many times due to the weaknesses and habits of that body.

The US has to decide what it wants and not what it THINKS it wants. We've been down this road hundreds of times since 1945.
It's as if we never learn. Does the US want to topple Assad or not? If yes then it must be willing to live with another religiously rabid, anti-Western Syria armed to the teeth and sitting on Israel's Golan Heights, not a good recipe for peace and stability).
If we do not arm them then we must be prepared to accept a another secularly rabid, anti-Western Syria armed to the teeth and sitting on Israel's Golan Heights.

Either way we lose, China, Russia, Hizbollah, North Korea, win.

Who determines which insane group gets advanced US weaponry and what do we do when they use it on Israel, which they eventually will? Do we then ask Israel to, “show restraint” for the 456th time? Or, do we let the Israelis FINALLY destroy their enemies?

There is no way that there will be a free and democratic Syria. I’d venture the population percent that favors true freedom to measure around only a few percentage point.

We’re working to deliver them from one bondage to the next more brutal bondage.

This is a two step rehabilitation of Hillary.

Anybody brings up Benghazi and why Amb Stevens’ there, the Dems can say Congress approved the sale, Hillary was ‘way ahead of the curve (cough, leadership, cough)’ and paves her way to run for 2016.

Why? What is our national interest in this? If the Democrats are so interested in freeing people, why not topple that nasty little dictatorship just off the coast of Florida.....Cuba? At least then we’d have another place for our cruise ships to visit.
Can our foreign policy be so easily bought? I remember my college professors going wild over the Panama Canal. Where is their outrage on these matters? We overthrow the government of Libya and now we’re actively and openly working to overthrow the government of Syria. Where is the outrage from academia? Why isn’t every campus in America in turmoil? Oh....that’s right.....it’s bad to kill people with Republican bombs, but it’s OK to kill people with Democrat bombs. Our academics are bought and paid for by the Democrat party. “VERITAS” my donkey.

So the Senate wants to go ahead with something the CIA was opposed to because of the high risk involved in arming “insurgents” with powerful weapons that endanger civilian aircraft? How STUPID is that?
