The Reconquista was a going concern long before anybody thought of a Crusade. Although it's traditional to credit Asturias with starting the Reconquista, in reality outside of the precincts conquered by the Moslems there weren't enough well armed heavy knights and large war horses available to do anything about anything. The Asturias initiative was rather pitiful ~ the Moslems noted there were 30 men. All quite romantic of course.
In the end most Spanish noble families have Breton and Cornish surnames ~

well, it only took the Spanish some 800- years (from 711 to 1492) to take back their country from the Moslem conquerors.
Maybe that wasn’t a long or hard enough struggle for these Spanish bureaucrats to give the Christian faith just this tiny bit of respect?

"Mrs. Gonzalez wants all references to Christianity to be replaced with equivalents such as “winter holidays” and “end of second term holidays” that are acceptable to everyone, including non Christians. "While at it, remove the word "Holiday" and replace it with 'vacation' or 'break' or 'time out'. I fail to see what's so holy about winter and second term. Where's the first term holiday? Autumn holiday? Summer holiday? Spring holiday?
