Senate panel OKs tax-welfare benefits for newly legal immigrants (incl Gramnesty & Flake)
The Washington Times ^ | 5/20/2013 | Stephen Dinan

The SenateJudiciary Committee voted Monday to allow illegal immigrants who get legal status to begin collecting tax-welfare payments, as the panel spent a fourth day working through amendments to the massive immigration bill and party-line splits began to emerge.

In one major change, the committee voted 17-1 to make a third drunken-driving conviction a deportable offense for the newly legalized immigrants if at least one of those offenses occurs after they are approved for legal status.

But immigrant-rights groups called that a rollback of due-process rights for the immigrants and said a drunken-driving incident shouldn’t cost someone a chance at citizenship.

“We cannot and will not support hard-line proposals that take away discretion and limit an individual’s ability to pursue the pathway to citizenship,” said Paromita Shah, associate director of the National Lawyers Guild’s National Immigration Project.

Overall, the committee continued to maintain the delicate balance struck by the “Gang of Eight” senators who negotiated the 867-page bill: Quick legal status for illegal immigrants, but delaying citizenship rights until after the administration spends more money on border security, puts in place a new electronic verification system to check workers’ status, and enacts an entry-exit system to check visas at airports and seaports.

In previous days’ action, two Republican members of the Gang of Eight — Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Jeff Flake of Arizona — joined with Democrats to block a series of GOP amendments to stiffen the bill’s security.

But on Monday, the two Republicans sided with their party colleagues on key questions on giving illegal immigrants public benefits.

This is about driving wages down into the gutter.

The elite bastards that come up with this garbage are bent on destroying this country and turning it into a 3rd world hell hole while they live in their gated communities.

Record unemployment and these fools want to import 10’s of millions more uneducated drains on society and the taxpayer.

Every damned one of them is a liar.

Rubio was the designated RINO who helps the Democrats get their way. What is the word for the wife who helps her husband stay on drugs or something?

Graham did really well on gun control but a one trick pony won’t get the job done these days.

Let me get this straight in my mind: MADD and others have been saying for years that we need to strengthen our drunk-driving laws. Yet, Illegal Aliens can have up to 3 before they are deported? How many Illegals do you think actually wind up in court and have to go through the already stringent process? They simply ignore the process or run back to Mexico.

There are stats that show many DUI accidents are caused by immigrants. This is insane.

If this thing passes in any form, we are done, finished, as a nation. The very first thing these illegal aliens will do it lawyer up - at tax payer expense - and run to the court saying it is discrimination that they have been denied the full bill of rights since they are now "LEGAL" and the court will overturn every single on of these restriction INCLUDING THE PROHIBILTION ON VOTING. The RAT party knows this, the GOP not so much. The GOP is so naive and continue stumbling over themselves trying to "buy" hispanic votes.

This will go down in the history books as the fall of America - not even Muslim Manchurian candidate Obama and Valjar can do this much damage. Even if I am wrong on the downing of America, it will most certainly signify the death of the Republican party.

This is called "Plantation Building"....putting able people on welfare. What are the rules? Billboards should go up along our borders with the rules...it is probably too late as thousands will try to cross for the reward the gang of 8 has given them...regardless that the reward is a sentence of slavery.

I certainly hope this ends Sen. Rubio’s propaganda ad on AM radio. ...”no federal benefits”...my ass.

Isn't it obnoxious? I listen to am talk all day and these ads (NOW WITH RYAN) run every 10-12 minutes - it drives me CRAZY.

Don’t know for sure but I’m betting those ads are taxpayer funded.

” No word from Rubio on this. He did his dirty work. “

Rubio is as bad as McCain.
