In any case, a mortally neglected consulate is quite different from “dead Americans”, a regard given to travelling students on a Eurail pass, which, in this case, just don’t command the attention due to the Consulate

In this I fully agree.

The Ambassador was an official representative of our country. Security should accompany the person, not just be confined to a facility.

To permit (when other possibilities existed) the brutal murder of an official representative without seriously attempting to prevent it (preemptively with adequate security), without attempting a rescue mission, and without any reprisal or additional action from outside against hostile forces on the ground is unconscionable.

The weakness conveyed in the inaction against a ragtag appearing ("image" is everything--even if they were well trained or coordinated) assault force gives the assault force 'face' and humiliates the US on the world stage.

That humiliation carries repercussions for all Americans abroad, and contributes to the jihadist worldview in that the "Great Satan" was helpless to stop them (even if they took casualties--that will be downplayed). That those who got away with the action did so will embolden others of their ilk worldwide. The Imams will tout it as "the will of Allah", and milk it for as many violent events as they can.

Yes. So, I wish the pundits would call it what it is.
