I-35 shut down, cars smashed.
Yes it went thru south Moore.
Massive devastation showing on live tv
obviously you have internet, can get the streaming vid link earlier in the thread
Yes I can see the typical Hook formation north of Tulsa!
Moore took a very bad hit ... sorry.
Moore is still being hit by a big one.
Your right..I guess compared to being at home or in a car a structure like a school would be the safest place. They showed the movie theater in Moore and it doesn’t look damaged at all, yet the school was destroyed..with tornadoes its the luck of the draw, one place doesn’t have a scratch while the other place can be completely destroyed
“A lot cheaper to go underground if possible.”
Am 60 miles north of Houston. We have a high water table. Dig a hole here and you have a water well.
Honest to God, people, this one does scare me - have that here and I’m dead and so is the Yorkie. There is nothing underground here.
humblegunner: do you have an underground shelter? I know you are Mr. Prepared, let me know if you have underground - I’m going to your house if there are severe tornados and you have underground.
Sweet friend, there was a hit in Moore. Sending prayers for you now.
Helicopter reporter said very similar path and destruction compared to 1999 tornado.
Yep, Texas landscape is such that underground shelters are not as feasible as in Oklahoma.
There are those that are urging the government to start recommending a helmet as part of storm prep. There is some evidence that a baseball batter’s helmet with face screen does very well. Also lot’s of people with kids have those already, and handy this time of year.
You can survive quite powerful tornadoes in an interior bathroom. House could be gone and you could survive. You’d have a good chance in ALMOST anything in a bathtub that you’ve pulled a mattress on top of.

WX UPDATE: Pauls Valley area you need to take your tornado precautions now. The storm to your west has a history of producing tornadoes. www.news.com.
about a minute ago near Oklahoma City, OK
I was just watching a video last night on the 1999 tornado.....how could this happen again?
Here is a DuPont above-ground shelter product rated for Category 5 hurricanes and F5 tornadoes - made of Kevlar.
No idea how much it costs or how much to install, but you’re not doomed if you can’t get underground.
Try to reach your family. Do it now. We are praying for you and your family.
Please, don’t make a point about homeschooling over a disaster like this. Schools in that area are sturdier than most homes in a tornado.
That poor guy that was just interviewed appeared to be in shock. 75 to 100 of the horses on his farm were killed.
Tomorrow is going to be the nervous day for us here in DFW.
If it’s an iron tub . They did a show of Mythbusters on that.(the ‘Lethal Weapon’ movie myth)
Nope, nothing underground.
Tornadic activity is expected far north of here, possibly affecting my ex-wife in Decatur.
My structure held up to Ike, I’m not terribly worried.
Gets real bad, I’ll repair to the pump house over the well.
Oddly enough, that sucker is the toughest structure on the property.
Most of the homes are gone too.
“There is some evidence that a baseball batters helmet with face screen does very well.”
The motorcycle helmet I bought has a face protector - keep it in the downstairs bathroom which is my strongest room.
The foundations are whistle-clean...the houses are just...gone.
They interviewed this guy whose farm lost 70-100 horses this is crazy..you stay safe!!
Thank you. I still haven’t heard from them...but...thank YOU...
“The prices for the DuPont storm rooms with Kevlar are set by the local distributors and range from about $5,750 for a 4 foot by 4 foot shelter and up to $15,000 for a 12 foot by 12 foot shelter. “
Tornadic cell heading towards Pauls Valley, OK.
Another huge tornado on ground north of red river close to ardmore moving east per Dunn
With a long line of severe storms like these, nowhere is safe.
I am...but the line is busy. Probably phone lines overloaded or down. I’m now scared.
Downstairs bathroom is a half bath but is safe room where it is. Have two large sofa cushions I put over Yorkie and me, plus I have that helmet. If the bathroom is still standing afterward, puppy and I have 3 days of food and water in backpack in there with us.
A helmet and something to protect the torso with kevlar.
I saw that. Poor man.
The line is tracking from south of Ft. Worth to Kansas City.
Massive and many strong storm cells in the line.
KFOR weather guy calls this Moore storm “the most destructive tornado in the history of the world.”
God be with your family. .remember cell phones may be out.
Yep. Now some development near DFW
Got this e-mail just now...
“Can you get this email. Major tornado. Major damage. House fine. We are fine. Dont try to call cells or home phone. Text only. Email maybe”
Prayers up for you and your family.
“Here is a DuPont above-ground shelter product rated for Category 5 hurricanes and F5 tornadoes - made of Kevlar”
Thanks. I’ve pinged humblegunner to see if he has underground safety. He’s got everything else, including plenty of guts and he’s big and strong.
Good news for you and your kin.
