I’m on channel 4 and they are passing along messages from kids in the hosptial looking for parents, talking with red cross where supplies can be had, etc.

Talking about the “refugees” (10,000+) just walking to... somewhere.... I think the only way to handle that is for folks that can, with undamaged homes invite folks in. I guess I would favor those with small kids, and perhaps still sleep with one eye open. But blankets and pads on the living room floor, sharing some food and water for a night or two until roads open up, etc.

At this point I hope fedgov stays the hell out of it, as the folks in OK seem to be doing a great job of taking care of their own, on their own !

I have seen drowned bodies recovered from shallow ditches that were dry prior to the thunderstorm hitting. Flash flooding is a killer in flat tornado country.

Probably not for an F-5. I think it's Texas A&M that has all the information of types of construction vs size of hurricane or tornado. You could probably find the information on their web site, including construction specifications.

Turns out one big thing is simple and cheap roof clips to keep the roof tied to the walls.

They do use your method here in florida for hurricanes but those aren’t as strong as tornadoes like this one.

Agreed - and maybe shaped like a flattish geodesic dome...it's all about "sail area" as we used to call it on my old LHA in my navy days. If the wind can catch a spot it will do some stuff. Big high profile ships like LHA's had to be very careful when coming into port - even if the wind was only around 20 knots. Fast wind is bad - fast water is worse...(usually).

I don’t have the funds or the guts/stupidity to risk myself chasing nature’s most furious and unpredictable storm. I’m also not a meteorologist.

The water level where I am is too high for a basement. Even a storm shelter would be a close call before hitting water. I want a storm shelter but can’t afford one.
