The Internal Revenue Service scandal may be the worst of all the current Obama administration fiascoes. It is an easily understood gross misuse of the powers of government to target opponents of the president. What is more, the administration’s supplicants in the lefty punditocracy can no longer claim this is just an IRS scandal.
The Post reports:
J. Russell George, the Treasury Department’s top tax watchdog, said Friday he had informed top Treasury officials starting last spring about problems related to the special attention the agency was paying some conservative organizations seeking tax-exempt status. George said he shared the information with the Treasury’s general counsel in June and with Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal S. Wolin “shortly thereafter.”
Are we to believe, with allegations of IRS harassment swirling in the media, that these two officials nodded, returned to their offices and told no one? If so, they are guilty of suppressing a huge scandal in an election year. But let’s get real. Upon hearing this information, it is almost inconceivable that they unilaterally decided to remain mum. Both of these officials must be required to answer questions under oath. If they do not, an independent prosecutor would be essential.
But we may not need to wait for that. ABC News reports:
Tea partiers say the lengthy questionnaires, some of them 30 questions long, cost them hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars as they sent stacks of paperwork to the IRS and were held in legal limbo for years, uncertain of what activities they could pursue, and cut off from skeptical donors scared away by their pending status.
“This is not only unconstitutional, it is illegal,” said Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice, a conservative civil-rights group that says it is suing the IRS....

Yep, like it or not, the IRS scandal is the biggie that has gotten the people’s attention. It’s personal, and it’s downright diabolical.
People are reacting accordingly to this, and it opens the door to raising awareness on all the rest of the regime’s despicable behavior.
I would have to agree. While my angst and anger over all of the issues that have plagued the last 5-6 years, THIS one has me ratcheted to a higher level than I ever thought possible. I can’t possibly be the only one.
My rage is barely confined to a keyboard. I’ll give the reps and Senators who have professed outrage about doing something a little time to collar this dog and root out the rot. But not much. If this gets watered down or swept into the corner, I will have to consider my options. Ranging from refusal to file tax forms, especially any that have questions about my healthcare coverage..to leaving the country, all are on the table. Fed up is an understatement.

Apeech is one, and theother is Religious freedon and the right to have a conscience which objects to their behavior.
The issue opens up many possibilities, but the first priority must be winning the Senate back and strengthening the House majority. What Boehner and Mitchell need is another Contrat with America founded on transparency and small government. People want their privacy back and we can lever that into a demand for liberty. The law, at the levels we have now, is obscene and no longer reflects reality. It is a monster used simply to plunder a la Bastiat.
Now's the time for a real reform of the tax code. There are worse scandals, but this one is virulent. We need to use it to capture the mushy middle. Now isn't the time for the GOPe to be in the ascendancy, but conservatism, good old conservatism (not that neo-conservative garbage).

The "Liberal Party" retained power in the recent elections, but their primary goal is to defeat corruption. They are reformers, but they are still politicians! ;>)

The IRS scandal shows a clear abuse of an immense power that our government wields by the people's consent alone. That this current administration would choose to wield that power in such a blatantly tyrannical fashion is abhorrent and frightening to any thinking person.
Other scandals with this regime, while just as abhorrent, can be viewed by some people as 'international intrigues', or 'the usual political squabbling', but not the IRS scandal. That strikes right at every American's front doorstep. It was a clear attack against the people by their own government, and a sure sign that we've passed the point of corruption with this government, and have entered the area of real tyranny.
It's not just rhetoric from a few disgruntled conservatives anymore.
I think we're only beginning to see the repercussions of this incident. I think it's fundamentally altered Americans' perceptions of the very nature of the federal government.
I don’t think low level flunkies in Cincy were mailing harassment letters from DC and Kalifornia and siccing the FBI and DHS on people

I won’t be disappointed. I fight with the army I have. It’s too easy to roll and moan on the sidelines. If you have a realisitic plan to seat veto proof conservative majorities in Congress that reflects the political reality in America today, by all means tell me.
Otherwise, all you can do is elect the most conservative candidate possible and work within the confines of the existing political process. There’s plenty of room for victory there.
