Toomey is open to reviving background-check bill

WASHINGTON - Sen. Pat Toomey (R., Pa.) hasn't given up on his bill to expand background checks for gun purchases, he said Thursday, signaling more willingness to return to the plan than he had publicly shown before.

"If we could find a way to bring some more folks on board, then of course it would be worth bringing it up again," Toomey said in an interview.

While he has largely returned his focus to the fiscal issues he has long been associated with, he said he still occasionally talked privately with fellow senators about the background-check bill that was defeated last month, and about potential changes that might win new support. But he has not heard of any opponents willing to switch their votes, he said, leaving the bill stuck short.

"I've had occasional conversations with my colleagues really ever since the vote," Toomey said. "There's nobody that I'm aware of that has indicated that they would change their vote."

Toomey really must want to be a one-term Senator.

The scandals can’t be allowed to cause us to start supporting the GOP business as usual politicos.

They will then feel safe to join Toomey on this issue or McCain on amnesty and think they can win the next election on their rage over the IRS-Obama while they get away with the other stuff.

What sort of dirt have they found on Toomey? That’s my only question after all the dirty politics scams we’ve seen the last week or two.

It really does make you wonder....what kind of guy would even think about empowering more bureaucrats at this point in our history?

Santorum is the smartest guys on Earth. He knew this guy was scum while the conservatives were frothing at the mouth over Toomey. Thank you Santorum for warning us of this turd.

Toomey does seem determined to see how far his previous positive NRA ratings will stretch in PA. If he reads this morning's WaPo article that recounted how quickly the NRA pounced on a TN state legislator that long held an A rating, it might give him pause. WaPo Article

Just imagine the IRS types being in charge of conservatives getting guns.

You might wait YEARS to be approved for that gun. Meanwhile you’ve had visits from the FBI, social services has taken your kids and no obamacare doctor has had time for your appointment yet and your boss has been told to let you go or be audited out the yin yang.

Rick claims he has religion now after supporting Specter and being the business as usual politician back then that Toomey is now.

I still believe he is a GOP-E tool.

I’m sure Toomey CAN see this. He’s presently distracted by the photos in the brown manilla envelope that he found on his desk this morning.

wow, that’s the most absurd spin on Santorum you’ve ever come up with...and you’ve come up with doozies. That is NOT AT ALL WHY Santorum backed Specter. And FTR, Toomey has not yet become as low life as Specter in the first place. But man oh man, the lengths you’ll go to tailor your sweater vest. Sheesh.

That is your opinion which is fine. I say we should have supported this incredible person for President. We would be 100 percent better off with Santorum than Obama for sure.

and about Santorum being better than Obama, we agree 100%.

But there was nothing noble in why Santorum supported Specter, and there is nothing yet to vindicate that decision anyway. Toomey will have to become a lot worse for that to be the case.

Perhaps you are right that Santorum should not have supported Specter, but he did. Does he have to pay for that forever? I mean Sarah Palin supported McCain and I think he does damage everyday to conservatives and she has been totally forgiven......people say that she owed him....well I believe that Specter support Santorum during his second Senate reelection. I guess not the same thing to some.

no, he doesn’t have to pay for it forever, but YOU brought it back up....and in an odd context.
