This Is No Ordinary Scandal
Wall Street Journal ^ | 5-16-13 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 05/16/2013 4:48:50 PM PDT by grimalkin

We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration's credibility deeply, probably irretrievably damaged. They don't look jerky now, they look dirty. The patina of high-mindedness the president enjoyed is gone.

Something big has shifted. The standing of the administration has changed.

As always it comes down to trust. Do you trust the president's answers when he's pressed on an uncomfortable story? Do you trust his people to be sober and fair-minded as they go about their work? Do you trust the IRS and the Justice Department? You do not.

Why is anyone surprised by the use of the IRS to persecute dissent and of the government searching the AP with a secret warrant?

After all it those who support the Obamanation of Desolation that claim the constitution is just a document.

The left believes that the end justifies the means. They believe that their end is good and that any way they can achieve it is justified.

That is the true difference between the left and the right. The Right is generally made up of people that are either absolutist or rationalist in the areas of ethics and morals while the Left are subjectivist which is simply a modern form of sophist

Either he knew about fast and furious, IRS harassment, etc., or he didn’t.

If he knew, he’s complicit.

If he didn’t, he’s incompetent.

Choose your poison, Zero, you loser shyster huckster con-man!

What the heck did Noonan do? As far as I can recall, she wrote some touchy-feely column(s) about Obama being a transcendent figure, and about how his acceptance speech was "inspiring" (or something).

Look at her now, she wrote a touchy-feely column that is right on the money--just as the earlier ones were.

And it would be shameful and shallow for any Republican operative or operator to make this scandal into a commercial and turn it into a mere partisan arguing point and part of the game. It's not part of the game.

Totally disagree with Noonan on this point! If ever we need to enter the 'game' and start playing hard ball, this is it! If talking points are true, why should they be off limits in the 'game', when the game is the very serious task of bringing attention to people and things that are wrong in our govt?

Bengazi is the scandal; all else is distraction. Actionable distraction certainly but it’s Bengazi that will keep Hillary out of the white house

And regardless of whether “the standing of the administration has changed,” almost certainly, nothing will be done about any of this. What came of Fast and Furious? — Nothing, and nobody cares. Nobody is going to care about this, either. With the ‘Rat control of the Senate, President Zero knows he is untouchable.

The country voted for him, and the country needs to have all four years of him. And his little dog Boener, too.

0bama using the IRS against his political enemies is clearly an IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE and are the actions of a tyrant.

I seem to remember there was a name on the thread when I first saw that photo. Of course I have no idea when I first saw it. Maggief is a good researcher, and has a good memory, and also Mesta Machine may remember.

We all have our biases. Mine is for a federal government that, for all the partisan shootouts on the streets of Washington, is allowed to go about its work. That it not be distracted by scandal, that political disagreement be, in the end, subsumed to the common good.

Really, Peggy. Do you not understand that this administration and the Democrat party have made the work of the federal government to subsume individual liberty and economic freedom?

How else can the country be defended except by "partisan shootouts"?

There is an enemy within, Peggy, and he controls the federal government. And, may I add, he is the guy you supported...

And it would be shameful and shallow for any Republican operative or operator to make this scandal into a commercial and turn it into a mere partisan arguing point and part of the game. It's not part of the game. This is not about the usual partisan slugfest. This is about the integrity of our system of government and our ability to trust, which is to say our ability to function.

How, then, do you propose to fight it, Peggy? With a high-minded bi-partisan commission of Washington lifers? Like yourself?

I didn't know that Mrs. Noonan had divorced ... and is now dating "Captain Obvious" ...

Actually, Peggy would fit in nicely with those 1930's Geman Industrialists (and their beautiful wives) who enjoyed "flirting" with the Nazis ...

Bengazi is by far the worst but it poses a problem for those who want to be rid of obumbler.

In regard to Bengazi, there are many problems in charging obumbler. Dumb....no law against dumb. Bad judgement...no law against that. Ashamed of the end result?....no law against being ashamed.

But the IRS matter is clearly a criminal act. It can be proven that it was intentional, law breaking, etc.

I think that is why the congress, most of whom are lawyers, are bearing down on the IRS matter even though unlike Bengazi, no one died.

It is a matter of which case one could try in court and make a convincing argument under the law.
