One of my friends from Kiryat Arba fought in the Yom Kipur war. Syria initially recaptured the Golan, and then Israel took it back and also the higher Syrian Golan peak. His job, together with his unit, was to hold onto that higher peak. He said that the cold on that peak was much more formidable than anything the Syrians could throw at them.
