Budget request denied, Sebelius turns to health executives to finance Obamacare
Washington Post ^ | May 10, 2013 | Sarah Kliff

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has gone, hat in hand, to health industry officials, asking them to make large financial donations to help with the effort to implement President Obama’s landmark health-care law, two people familiar with the outreach said.

Her unusual fundraising push comes after Congress repeatedly rejected the Obama administration’s requests for additional funds to set up the Affordable Care Act, leaving HHS to implement the president’s signature legislative accomplishment on what officials have described as a shoestring budget.

Over the past three months, Sebelius has made multiple phone calls to health industry executives, community organizations and church groups and asked that they contribute whatever they can to nonprofit groups that are working to enroll uninsured Americans and increase awareness of the law, according to an HHS official and an industry person familiar with the secretary’s activities. Both spoke on the condition of anonymity to talk openly about private discussions.

Didn't see this posted and it almost slipped through with the IRS, Benghazi, and DOJ-AP scandals breaking this weekend.

I certainly hope they advertise the names of any Industry that supports them so I can be sure not to spend a penny with them.

I wonder if there is an implied threat that if you don’t give additional support, you will get extra attention from the IRS?

The insurance companies are already being forced to pony up via industry fees and reinsurance mandates to fund the health exchange/death panels. We're talking billions here.

The exchanges are basically the health insurance industry's competition and they are being forced to support it. Being forced to pay for the priviledge of pushing everyone into an exchange and putting themselves out of business.

I hope they told her to go eff herself.

"...Over the past three months, Sebelius has made multiple phone calls to health industry executives, community organizations and church groups and asked that they contribute whatever they can to nonprofit groups that are working to enroll uninsured Americans and increase awareness of the law..."

On one hand, I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to listen to some of those conversations with "health industry executives" asking them to give money. One can only imagine that conversation:

SEBELIUS: "Hi Mr. X, now, I know that your hospital is going through tough times right now, and Obamacare is going to force you to lay off workers, cut back schedules and services, increase the dissatisfaction of your patients while increasing the costs to both them and you, but I was hoping to convince you to voluntarily contribute both time and money to advance this process as speedily as possible..."

On the other hand, know there are far too many liberals who will view self-immolation as a privilege to forward the cause of their Dear Leader.

I know. It is almost beyond believing. But that is the way things go these days.

If you make a sizable donation, I could make sure you don’t get audited...

Unusual! It’s unprecedented and illegal!

The US Constitution Article 1 Section 7

All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

She is an Officer of the Administrative branch of the Federal Government seeking REVENUE to fund the functions of government. This must not stand.

She is collecting illegal taxes.

Typical conversation:

I am here to collect some money for our obamacare awareness program. Nice house and kids you have Mr. Insurance Executive, pity anything happen to them. Now, how much can I put you down for, say $10 million would make you a benefactor on our pyramid of help. We saw your tax records so we know you can easily handle that level. Rocco and Vito will be around to pick up the package, say around 11 AM day after tomorrow. BTW, failure to make the agreed payment means a weekly vig gets added to the principal. Rocco and Vito will be back then either here or at your house right after school lets out.

I’m looking at this headline, thinking it must be a sarcasm piece.

But it’s true - it’s really true. She’s actually doing it ..going around begging from the private sector to “fund” a government effort.

These liberals truly have no conscience, no shame, or neither any brains. They are like zombies, walking around with their hands out ...always.

Guess she’s going to have to learn it the hard way ...Katherine, there’s just no such thing as a free lunch.

“In the end, “The Boner” will fold!’

It’s Boner who is refusing to provide money for obumacare, essentially starving the beast. Let’s give him credit when he does something right. It might encourage him starve other parts of the criminal fascist syndicate occupying Washington.

Well, apparently Max Baucus has. The creep wrote the law and strong-armed CBO into “bending the cost curve” down to get the projected cost under $1 trillion, and now he’s bailing on it.

ROTFL

The government barely pays enough for the services it’s wards of the state receive. In many instances, it doesn’t cover the full costs.

Insurance companies aren’t much better. Private pay is almost non-existent.

Hospitals operate on a very thin margin these days.

So who does Pelosi expect to pick up the Obamacare costs slack? Health providers?

This woman has got to be passing back and forth between two separate universe realities, because her comments don’t express any understanding of ours whatsoever.

I agree...if this is in fact his strategy and he didn't fall into it, then he needs to be given credit for doing the right thing.

Apparently so because the administration chose this precise point in time, when Sebelius is doing her shakedown of companies- to make the IRS scandal public.
