IRS released confidential info on conservative groups to ProPublica
Washington Post ^ | 5/14/2013 | Josh Hicks

ProPublica on Monday reported that the same IRS division that targeted conservative groups for special scrutiny during the 2012 election cycle provided the investigative-reporting organization with confidential applications for tax-exempt status.

That revelation contradicts previous statements from the agency and may represent a violation of federal guidelines. Lois G. Lerner, who heads the IRS sector that reviews tax-exemption applications, told a congressional oversight committee in April 2012 that IRS code prohibited the agency from providing information about groups that had not yet been approved.

Reps. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) had asked Lerner in March 2012 to provide a list of all organizations that the IRS had subjected to special scrutiny.

Lerner replied that she could not legally reveal information about groups that were not approved and that identifying targeted applicants that were already approved would require additional work, specifically a “manual review of each file.” She did not identify any of the organizations.

This is practice for the future of all
Americans’ medical records

(unless they are Moslem
OR a member of a US Congressperson’s
family or staff.)

This is positively Nixonian. I’m not really surprised, other than for the fact the MSM is paying attention to the story.

Seriously, this is the same IRS that has been legislated the power to monitor our health insurance status under Obamacare. Anyone feel just that much more uneasy about that fact now that this story has come to light?

80% of the public don’t want Obamacare. They’ve shoved it down our throats without giving a damn about their constituents, and they made themselves exempt.

They are going to keep pushing and pushing, we’re not going to push back. It’s over, look at what the gov is getting away with today. Only chance is to take house and senate with conservative candidates.

80% of the public care more about Jolie getting her breasts removed than the IRS.

Has anyone waded into the DU cesspool for their reactions to these scandals?

This is VERY serious because it is a violation of multiple Federal laws to reveal confidential tax information to a third party (with some very, very specific exceptions).

I have a sneaking suspicion that Obama's puppet masters might not think that's a bad thing.

The Obama's get an early retirement to their estate in Hawaii. Biden picks Hillary as his Veep. Come '16, the 'Rats now get to run Biden (or Hillary, should Biden "take ill") as an incumbent.

Other than as a source for fundraising, Obama's lame-duck status means he is useless to the Marxist movement post-2016, so they may be plotting a scenario that continues their move 'forward'.

I'll take my tinfoil hat off now!

They have destroyed their brand along with our trust in government... our health care system... our education system (and any other thing that they have touched) and we are far more at risk today than we were in 2008. I would rather be us than them.

Last night, Mark Levin said that the Republican in charge of the committee to investigate this IRS scandal has promised "a bipartisan commission to investigate the targeting of political groups by the IRS for auditing."

But the IRS has already admitted to the fact that they specifically targeted Tea Party groups, not leftist organizations.

According to Mark, this vague phraseology reflects the fact that deals are being made to bury the entire investigation.

I just heard... no cancer... just a gene that predisposes her to the chance that she “might” get cancer so she had a double mastectomy... man I feel sorry for her but why not just keep a close eye out for cancer and live your life?

Exactly.

The last people in the world I want to have access to any of my records - financial, medical, whatever - are government employees.

Scandals in the State, Treasury, and Justice Departments.

Time for a Special Prosecutor.

These are not scandals. They are high crimes against America.

More like time for a hanging or firing squad! This most corrupt administration in the history of our country clearly deserves to be tried for the treason they have perpetrated... and then let the gallows fill or the lead fly! The latter is more likely, but not against a wall!
