IRS scrutiny went beyond Tea Party, targeting of conservative groups broader than thought

An IRS campaign to apply additional scrutiny to conservative groups went beyond targeting "Tea Party" and "patriot" groups to include those focused on government spending, the Constitution and several other broad areas.

The additional guidelines created by the agency were part of a timeline, obtained by Fox News, from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, which is looking into the controversial IRS practice. IRS officials apologized Friday for the scrutiny, but new information suggests senior leaders were apprised of the effort as early as 2011 despite public denials from the top.

I’m not registered as a member of any political party, but I’ve been harassed by a pointless audit. They didn’t even claim there was anything wrong, and found nothing.

I suspect the IRS is targeting people that criticize this administration on social media. With their subpoena power, they wouldn’t have any problem breaking through any anonymity and identifying me, or you, unless you have taken extraordinary measures.

It cost me a lot of money in accountant fees. And after this weekend’s revelations, I am beyond pissed. If. I could find out who selected me for an audit, I would haul them in for a deposition to find out why.

Yours is as good a theory as any.

I dunno, I just thought random audits would be easy to check. If they're truly "random", then party affiliation should be 40-40-20 (D) (R) and (I), approximately.

I live in NC and we're currently undergoing a debate on Voter ID. I told my wife, if this gets passed, it will be pretty easy to see the extent of voter fraud. The state has gone close to 50-50 for the past two major elections.

I'm hoping that the state stays deadlocked in 2016, but doubt it will be. If it's not still a dead heat, that means that pretty much all of my past votes have been meaningless. Going forward, though......

Clinton did the same thing: sent the IRS attack dogs against conservatives in the 1990s. Reagan and the Bushes did not do likewise to their liberal opponents. This just enforces the adage: the Democrats are the Evil Party. If the GOP backs down on this issue and Benghazi, they will reinforce their moniker: the Stupid Party.

Remember, this is an administration which will not profile terrorists, but will profile patriots? Profile constitutional groups? I mean, this is almost madness. - Newt
