WASHINGTON (AP) — The Internal Revenue Service is apologizing for inappropriately flagging conservative political groups for additional reviews during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS unit that oversees tax-exempt groups, said organizations that included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax-exempt status were singled out for additional reviews. Lerner said the practice, initiated by low-level workers in Cincinnati, was wrong and she apologized while speaking at a conference in Washington. Many conservative groups complained during the election that they were being harassed by the IRS. They said the agency asked them an inordinate number of questions to justify their tax-exempt status. Certain tax-exempt charitable groups can conduct political activities but it cannot be their primary activity.

Obama, using his SEIU career bureaucrats allies, launched a retaliatory political strike against his TEA Party enemies via the IRS. The only surprise here is that the IRS apologized. These people should be fired.
Don’t you wish you could get away with grossly illegal behavior by simply releasing the news on Friday and simply apologizing like they can?
The IRS is probably trying to head off a deeper investigation. That probe needs to continue until indictments are handed down.
There must be earth shaking revelations coming about Obama and the IRS, this is the only reason they would preemptively admit guilt.

Remember how the Feds used the IRS to bring down Al Capone in the early 1930’s? Imagine the delicious irony when the actions of the IRS since January 20, 2009 targeting conservatives ends up bringing down President Obama more so than the Benghazi debacle....

We should all go to rob a bank tomorrow, and IF they catch you, you say “Gosh, I’m sorry” ... and that should be it
And did IRS provide any tax files or tax returns to the staff over at the White House?
We should demand mass firings, rescinding of pensions, and jail time for all involved. Apologies are not even close to enough for these egregious crimes.
Carney blamed the GOP for it.
Lefties actually saying it’s fine for the IRS to target the right for their political beliefs.
Apology won’t hack it. They won’t let us apologize for making a mistake on our tax returns.
Jail for them.
“The “apology” is a shot across the bow showing that they can do it, they can admit it, and nothing will be done about it. In other words they can continue doing it with impunity. This is in your face.”
And the press could care less, as opposed to the Nixon and Reagan days when anything the feds did were trumpeted as scandal.
How do you apologize and in the next breath say: “It wasn’t politically motivated...just a mistake.”
