Kevyn Orr: Detroit Is In Worse Shape Than I Thought
CBS Local ^ | May 8, 2013 | Vickie Thomas

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit’s emergency manager says the city is bleeding much more red ink than originally thought. That’s what Kevyn Orr told WWJ City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas in an exclusive one-on-one interview.

“The situation is severe,” Orr said. “It’s worse that we originally thought. It ain’t good.”

With just 39 days under his belt, Orr is already putting the final touches on a draft of his 40-plus page financial report, which must be submitted to the state on Monday.

“I’ve been spending virtually every day from March 25 when I got here, looking at the city’s financials. This is an emergency. I’ve got 16 and three-quarters months to deal with it,” he said. “This is truly a financial emergency and we need to move with speed because frankly, we can’t be here in the same position next year.”

Cut spending, cut taxes, encourage the folks to police themselves, keep the big business interests coming in, and most of all, get the FBI digging through the files of every single city official.

There is really no reason Detroit should be in the kind of shape its in. There is far greater freedom in Detroit than there is in most major cities. The real problem is the city council protection racket.

Can someone give me ONE example of something run by liberals that 1. actually works, and 2. is not bleeding money? This is a serious question that only reads like sarcasm.

Waterboarding Kilpatrick and Ferguson might turn up some previously misappropriated funds.

They’re usually also bleeding literally. Found that ironic in the article.

In the case of Detroit its not liberalism, its corruption. Cut off the gravy train to a truly liberal city and Detroit will look like a utopia.

Just down the road is the much smaller city of Ann Arbor and they take huge sums of taxpayer dollars for a city that size.

Facebook. Google. Apple. There are plenty of free-market examples. “Free market” being the key.

Waterboarding Kilpatrick

The Son or the Mom?

I'd go for the ladder, as IMHO he learned all these tricks from her, and she is off scott free. Ditto that John Conyers and Monica went to the big house..

What is wrong with THAT picture?

Nothing that higher taxes and a “living wage” couldn’t solve.

My gnomes here in SE Michigan got it, I was a nave and thought Orr was the fix-it guy..

As my gnomes note, he is not, he is here to prepare the city for Chapter 11, bet on it...

This is a warning shot to that effect...

He didn’t realize how many crooks were going to be waiting for him in his new office with their hands out.

“He didn’t realize how many crooks were going to be waiting for him in his new office with their hands out.”

I think he got a clue when crooks were waiting at every red light and at every fast food drive-through with their hands out.

“The situation is severe,” Orr said. “It’s worse that we originally thought. It ain’t good.”

Well then, the solution's simple: Throw some gasoline on it, set it on fire and let it burn to the ground.

Problem solved.

Liberals run Harvard University, University of Wisconsin - Madison, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor they actually work at corrupting individuals into a collective mindset and they are profitable in terms of getting their brainwashed alumni to give more and more and their endowments are mind altering. See they work.

detroit is worse and Kevyn Orr will not solve it. detroit will be the first city in Michigan to fold. Thanks to the demorats that ran it into the ground.

Back in 2009, the Detroit Public Schools had “ghost” employee’s collecting checks. 250 employee’s were getting checks that were not on the payroll.

Finally Granholm grew a brain and made every person pick up their check in person.

250 paychecks were not collected. The checks totaled 208K.

Well, no matter what, the city won’t be in the same position in a year and a half. That’s true whether there is a turn around, or if the city sinks into the abyss.
