Gay Rights Amendment Offered to Immigration Bill
NewsMax ^ | May 8, 2013 | Reuters

U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy on Tuesday proposed a gay rights amendment to the Senate's immigration bill, prompting one of the measure's Republican sponsors to repeat his prediction that it could sink the legislation. "It'll kill the bill," Florida Senator Marco Rubio said in a brief interview. "There is a coalition of groups who are supporting immigration reform who will not support it if that's in there."

Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants and a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2016, is key to attracting conservative support for the bill. It remained uncertain whether the amendment would make it through the committee, which is controlled by Democrats.

The Leahy amendment, one of more than 100 offered two days before the Judiciary Committee takes up the bill, would allow U.S. citizens who are in "long-term committed relationships" to sponsor their foreign partners for green cards, which would allow them to live and work legally in the United States.

Schumer is simply perpetuating the work of The Swimmer.

By yoking himself to Schumer, Rubio is simply helping to polish Ted Kennedy's legacy.

Rubio is dead with or without this bill with or without amendments. He revealed himself to be an open borders geek. We don’t know if he’s gay.

Romney was a loser ~ man didn’t have a chance of winning ~ certainly nothing wrong in opposing the nomination of an idiot like that.

I agree with Mickey Kaus.

There's no reason why Democrats would want to kill this bill.

If it does die, they're going to revive it-just like the DREAM Act-but there's no way they'll pass up a chance to enfranchise millions of future statist, dependent Democrats.

Lots of ‘conservatives’ still refuse to admit they weren’t warned. And the next leftist the Repubs the GOP runs will get their screaming support. And we’ll get the blame for not backing them to the hilt. AGAIN.

there is a flood of radio and tv ads featuring rubio pushing for this amnesty.

It is 100% lies. It claims amnest is not really amnesty and a promise to secure the boarder is actually good enough.

100% lies.

To paraphrase Mary McCarthy, .. every word [Rubio says] is a lie, including 'and' and 'the.'

Applies equally to the other seven members of the Senate Gang.

Sure would be nice if the Republicans on the committee “cross over” and vote for the gay amendment - it would CLOBBER the Dems.

That's what I assume. So, with a homo amendment, I don't understand what votes Leahy would pick up that he doesn't already have. It just seems to me he's taking a bill that's dodgy for Dems in conservative districts and making it downright radioactive. A mystery.

This immigration bill sounds worse than 0bastardCAare. It will bankrupt the country, make even fewer jobs available for Americans, flood the country with people who should stay in their home countries, and now will increase the number of homosexuals here, as if we didn't have enough. And how many of these immigrants will have fake "long term committed" whatevers just to bring someone else in? Actually IMHO one of the reasons the leftists want to flood the country with more immigrants is to reduce the percentage of Americans with European ancestry; that's just one of many reasons.

Anyone wanting on/off either ping list, freepmail me.

It’s no mystery.

He wants to keep immigration exactly where it’s at. The Dems are clobbering the opposition with it. Why change that?

No. Rubio thinks with 16%+ unemployment, we need another 20-30M low-skilled workers in the U.S.

I’m embarrassed he’s from FL.
