Don't moles eat stuff like grubs?
This was back in Maine. They'd do all their tunnelling underground, under the snowpack. In the spring, our front yard would look like a construction site.
The Ice Age cometh, best to start hunting for cold weather furs early before the shortage occurs.
I talked to a bee guy about that - he said if the warm followed by cold was the culprit, there’d be a lot of dead bees in the bottom of the hive.
The problem is that there are no bees in the hive, dead or alive.
They go out, run into some chemical that confuses them,
then can’t make it back to the hive.
So will chickens and ducks,
and I haven’t eaten many mole eggs, I’ll tell you.
Warm then cold?
We certainly had that this year.
If you bought the parsley and cilantro that may be the problem. Hubby couldn’t stand fresh cilantrol until I grew it fresh. The flavor changes after it’s picked according to him.
YMMV. Depending on your location this would be a great time to start cilantro. And when it tries to bolt, let it. Bees love the blooms and the seeds are coriander.
Yes, we had that this year. The point was that was NOT the cause of all the bee loss - the evidence didn’t support it.
OK I accept that.
But I am cautious about alarmist predictions.
Many times “scientist” are wrong too. I am interested in discussion of reasonable analysis. It is however always prudent to look at the background of those doing the analysis and determine if they have a financial interest in promoting their position. Often financial reward distorts the “scientific” process.
The bee guys are speculating that it’s pesticides causing the confusion in the bees.
The pesticides don’t kill the bees outright, they can show that in lab tests,
but a confused bee is a dead bee nonetheless.
