Michelle Obama told an audience attending her book signing Tuesday that the White House garden is still semi-open to the public because visitors can see it through the fence.
She was promoting her book, American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America, released in May 2012.
[M]y goal in this book is to share the story of the creation of the garden, Michelle Obama said during the Tuesday morning signing at Washingtons Politics and Prose Bookstore, because while it is semi-open to the public because if you visit the White House along the South Lawn, you can see the garden from outside of the White House.
But millions of people dont get a chance to come to Washington. They hear about the garden; they dont get an opportunity to see it, she said.
Visitors standing outside the fence of the South Lawn can see portions of the garden at least 100 yards away, though the view can be somewhat obscured by a wall of trees and shrubbery.
The Obama administration stopped allowing visitors to tour the White House grounds beginning on March 9 due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration.

“let them eat cake”.
Can we eat cake while we look in the fence at Versailles?
What a total waste.
The sequester should’ve cut this b/s.
What a generous spirit.
LOL! The First Chewie. I’ll have to remember that one.
She was promoting her book, American Grown: The Story of Workplace violins in Ft. Hood Texas...,
So Fort Knox is SEMI-Open to the Public too cause you can look through the fence...
Funny, I can’t see any gold in there.... :P
Well, why not? Her husband has been telling us that we are "semi-free" from his first day in office.
“They’re still semi-free. They can look through the razor wire with no problem.”
So they can still afford to plant and maintain a garden, just not let anyone in to see it. It is for them, not us.
Really, I just can’t believe that these two idiots are running this country. This comment, is something a queen would say to her subjects. This is NOT her house, she is simply visiting and she should be humbled by the honor. This comment shows her complete lack of intelligence, respect and dignity that her position demands.
What did Chewbacca do to deserve such disrespect?
Talk about insulting...
Wow, OK I’m booking a flight to DC!
Plugs would call her a Chewie knockoff.
Of course the fence is electrified.
Wish it was sarire
On the other hand, Michelle Obama appears three nights a week at the Bim-Bom-Bomp Room
Does she actually maintain the garden? Does she work the soil and plant the garden every year? Does she water and fertilize? Harvest?
How dare she speak about gardens in America. She has likely done very little gardening - pure elitist phony.
I just KNOW that bitch stopped the WH tours, at the first “excuse” to do so.
“This is MY house!”, so sayeth the wookie.
How can you be so insulting.
But, HEY! There is a garden there, and since it was apparently her idea, well, perhaps it counts...
I DO wonder if the Obama homestead in Chicago also has a wonderful garden, "kitchen" or otherwise, that she just can't wait to get back to when the time comes?
The Wookie and Freddie Mac can semi kiss my Ass! She doesn’t want to see all those semi slaves in her hut.
