Jeff Flake hints: I’ll support expanded background checks in return for changes on Internet sales

A week ago, he noted on his Facebook page that his poll numbers after voting no on Toomey/Manchin put him somewhere south of “pond scum.” Today, this.

He won’t face the voters again for five and a half years, but he shares a home state with Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly. They can hurt him by campaigning against him in 2018 more than they can anyone else in the Senate. No wonder he’s looking for ways to flip:

Republican Sen. Jeff Flake told CNN he is willing to reverse his opposition to expanding background checks for guns if the Senate sponsors change on the bill’s provision dealing with internet sales…

He said under the measure as written, if a gun owner sends a few friends a text or email asking if they want to buy their gun, or posts it on their Facebook page, “that is considered a commercial sale.”

For people in rural areas in his state and others, he said that becomes inconvenient and costly…

Some Republicans opposed the measure out of fear that expanding background checks would put the country on a path to a national gun registry, but Flake said that is not his concern.

If Flake flips, that’s 55 votes for Toomey/Manchin. Johnny Isakson also allegedly told a gun-control activist yesterday that he’s “having conversations” with T&M to improve their bill.....

Assassination threats ~ there's no doubt the kid who shot Gabby was actually after the Republican federal judge that he succeeded in killing first.

There've been other attempts.

Democrats in Arizona play dirty.

Republican Sen. Jeff Flake told CNN he is willing to reverse his opposition to expanding background checks for guns sell his vote if the Senate sponsors for the bargain price of a minor change on the bill’s provision dealing with internet sales.

Edited for accuracy.

Flake should agree to support Coburn's background check bill. He should not support Manchin/Toomey because it has inadequate protections for gun owner's privacy.

Under Coburn's plan, the gun buyer would go onto the NICS website and run a background check on himself. If he passed, he would be given a unique code number that would allow him to purchase guns for the next 30 days. He would then go to the seller, who would enter the code number with NICS and verify that the buyer was authorized, and the sale would proceed. The beauty of the system is that the seller never has to provide the information on the gun or guns being purchased, or even if any guns are purchased at all. That way the data is never gathered and the buyer's privacy is protected.

As far as I am concerned, background checks are acceptable as long as they do not create the databank that can be used to create a national registry. Registry leads to confiscation, time after time. But if you talk about confiscation, people say you are paranoid. So we should talk about protecting our privacy, which would make registration and eventual confiscation impossible.

Say "Confiscation",
And they call you paranoid.
So say "Privacy".

This is psyops. They want to nail Flake. PPP is hard left. I don’t trust their polling and neither should any FReeper. Do we have the internals, the poll questions and the crosstabs?

This is push-polling. Who sponsored and paid for the poll?

Don’t be dumb and buy into this.

Arizona doesn’t actually have US senators. The people who occupy the seats buy them, because they have the money to afford them.

McCain uses his wife’s beer inheritance money to destroy any Republican who would challenge him, their reputation so defiled afterwards that they are pariahs. It doesn’t matter if it is fabricated. It is so vile that no one could politically survive the deluge of hate.

Flake is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mormon church, and they are often politically unpredictable, with a large number of somewhat ultra-conservatives, and a smaller, die hard group of radical leftists.

How about NO expansion of background checks and NO internet tax. While your about it NO AMNESTY, better to leave immigration alone except FOR PROTECTING AND SEALING OUR BORDERS and DEPORTING ILLEGAL ALIENS. REPEAL OBAMACARE, DEFUND CZARS, REDUCE TAXES AND SPENDING. GET the UN out of the US and the US out of thge UN and while your at it no more aid to countries un-friendly to the US. Just for a start.

Someone help me here, please.

I thought ONLY the House could originate bills that dealt with taxes or revenue.

This bill started in the Senate, therefore, IMO, it isn’t a legal bill in the first place.

I also got the same idea when Roberts said Obamacare was a TAX—and since it started in the Senate, it should have been challenged as not legal.

This is the Amnesty Liberal Sarah Palin supported over a more consevative candidate in the primary.

Make note
*******************************************************************
I’ve made a note to be on the lookout for so-called conservatives who will not miss a chance to take a shot at the folks doing the “heavy lifting for our side. And those folks include Sarah Palin and the Koch brothers—folks who the progressives hate.

I’ve also made a note to keep an eye out for folks who attempt to sow discord among Constitutional Republic supporters.

PS - Flake’s behavior in the Senate has been very much at variance with the beliefs on which he campaigned.

How about deleting it, Johnny? That would improve it.
