Posted on 05/07/2013 10:35:09 AM PDT by Republican Wildcat
Retailers are cutting worker hours at a rate not seen in more than three decades a sudden shift that can only be explained by the onset of ObamaCare's employer mandates.

They are just Sequestering employee hours.
If you double the number of workers but keep the total hours worked exactly the same, does that not equate to a larger workforce and less unemployment - at least statistically speaking?
Is that not a major factor in what is happening to our unemployment stats right now?
On the bright side, we’ll all be free to, as Pelosi said, dedicate our jobless lives to pursuing the fine arts.
Obama is well on his way to creating the society he wants. A small group of workers paying crushing taxes to support government welfare for a large population of unemployed or semi-employed people who either don’t want to or can’t find full time work with benefits. The more you mandate that employers provide all kinds of benefits to workers, the more you create a dual class society with zero mobility between the classes.
What is so funny is watching the liberals twist into knots about the application and following of the laws!
Usually, liberals are all about following the LETTER of the law, even getting thugs, rapists and criminals off by playing stupid word-games with judges, lawyers and juries!
Now, they are all SCREAMING and gnashing their teeth because businesses aren’t following the INTENT of the law (which was to force companies to provide things which they CANNOT afford to provide)!
Proof that Liberalism is a mental disease! You can’t have a FUNCTIONING BRAIN CAVITY and actually want the laws applied/followed one way for one set of people and then want them applied/followed another way for a different set of people!
I dont want to laugh...but you almost have to, at least to avoid crying.
The people wanted this bullshot. We tried to warn you. We tried to tell you to read the bill. You were too busy rubbing you hands together for all of that sweet sweet free healthcare like they have in Swedonia or whatever Eurotrash hole.
Well, enjoy. Use that extra time to have some garage sales because you will have to sell your home to move into quarters fitting of an O-care recipient.
My traveling flea circus will finally find crowds.
The obamites don’t care. For purposes of reporting in the news, someone who works 29 hours is full time.
And I won’t have to wait until I’m an institutionalized Alzheimer’s patient to begin my finger-painting career.
Increasing the payroll while halving the number of hours each may work effectively cuts productivity down by an almost exponential factor. Productivity is what makes capitalism work, as the more productivity, the less the per-unit cost, and the higher wages that can be passed on to the individual worker. At lower cost, a lower price may also be asked of the consumer, increasing competitiveness in the market place.
But now, twice as many people are each being half as much as before, so the average wages FALL, which reflects negatively in the demand for goods and services in the marketplace. People of lower incomes do not shop at Macy’s or Whole Foods. They go to second-hand shops and dig around Dumpsters for their next meal. They double up and share rent on housing, four or five people crammed into a space meant for only one or two. Unconventional sites for housing, such as shipping containers or storage units, are put into use, often in ways that violate any and all of the local codes.
This would best described as a death spiral.
Will Odumbo voters figure it out?
Nah. Too complicated; of course.
It is not just retailers who are slashing hours to avoid Obamacare.
Colleges and universities are doing the same thing.
Yesterday it was reported that HEADSTART is slashing hours to avoid buying healthcare for its employees.
I bet there’s an NEA grant for that, too!
Yes. There was much made this week about the recent 0.2 hours-per-week drop in the average workweek — the equivalent of a loss of some 700K full-time jobs.
Happening all over - exactly the way those of us who opposed it said it would. None of these people will have health insurance, and those who could afford to buy their own policy outside of their employer now can no longer afford it and will have to drop it.
All of the problems we said would happen are happening, none of the miraculous benefits the liberals said would materialize will happen. Now the question is - are the liberals just stupid and believed their own nonsense about this bill, or did they do it intentionally to destroy the system completely to have an excuse to usher in single payer, completely state run healthcare systems?
They’ll blame it on the Republicans, none of whom voted for the bill.
Obomba is using the fools of this country to break down this country.
It’s an effective tactic. He has his end-game in sight.
Next up: he’ll be trying to divide along other lines if he can.
He has come to bring fundamental change to America. He has come to divide and neuter America.
And liberal American fools are too blind to see it.
Yes we will be free to travel and enjoy ourselves. We will also make the French look like workaholics! ;-)
Yes, they are that stupid.
I debated four of them not 7 or 8 weeks ago. Totally clueless.
Folks will have more time now to sit at their 3-D printers and print guns.
If I snag an NEA grant, then I can afford a ticket to your flea circus. Things are looking up already!
That great jobs report....115, 000 of the i65,000...service jobs...have to hire a few more workers at 28 hrs a week...Not one manufacturing job..and loss of construction jobs... 28 hrs a week plus welfare and Obama phone not bad I guess!!!
I also accept SNAP and EBT cards for admittance.
All my fleas are farm raised ,organic, and fair trade certified.
There’ll be a lot of 58 hour/ 2 job people, too, the people trying to get ahead when only 29 hour/week jobs are available. And OT will be history. Likely, many of them will have voted for The One.
Yes they will, and they will be wildly successful at it too.
In the end I don’t think this will work, for one of two reasons.
1)In order to cut everyone’s hours in half you have to double the size of your staff. Not likely to happen in a society overrun with lazy, shiftless pool of candidates out there. Certainly not while having to compete with Obama benes and welfare.
2)Fearing the political damage if this continues, Obama will instruct that “the secretary shall” inflict some brutal punishment on a couple of high-profile employers to make examples of them and scare off the rest.
And the unemployment rate drops.
Thank you glorious leader!
-— Colleges and universities are doing the same thing. ——
The college bubble is on the verge of bursting. The actual price of private colleges is now 50% of the sucker price. Or as the newscaster excitedly stated, “colleges are giving lots of financial aid!”
Repeat after me, “Yaaaaay!” Now clap your hands!
Hope for Spare Change
Unexpectedly of course.
Who is John Galt?
When I had a large staff gave them the option to work four ten hour days instead of five eight hour days. Except for one employee, all chose the four ten hour days, half had Friday off, the other half had Monday. Productivity soared.
Part of each day is always wasted getting organized to get ready to work and then gearing down to get ready to go home. Best change we ever made. Employees loved having three days off and our clients just loved being able to have their needs met on an extended day basis. So it was a win/win for everyone.
Yep, pretty soon we’ll have so many part time jobs we’ll have full employement!
Yes. Part time jobs are counted the same as full time jobs in the employment stats.
If a person has 2 part time jobs, that’s counted as 2 jobs (and as basically as 2 different people being employed).
They could have just looked at Hawaii as a case study.
For decades employers in Hawaii have had to pay for at least half of health insurance premiums for full time employees (defined as 20 hours per week or more). As a result a lot of peole work 2 (or 3) part-time jobs and no employer paid health insuance.
This was a no-brainer.
I have a friend who cannot understand why his basically UNEMPLOYABLE 36 year old son cannot find a job with more than about 24 hours.
His current ‘job’ is in a restaurant, and he has been fired from a continuing chain of menial positions.
Daddy keeps bailing him out.
When Daddy is gone, this ‘kid’ will have a big shock.
I freely admit that I did not coin that phrase but thought it was appropriate. I used to either get rude responses like “You don't know what you are talking about” or blank stares.
Well they got it and now some of them get it.
Blaming the republicans is being spewed now, even on a military site because of the cancellation of Independence Day fireworks at a major base. Some other posts suggested no more vacations for the White House family.
Another thing about part-time work is if you have to get three jobs, it costs more in gas and clothing if there is a dress code.
You mean like this?
