The first downloadable gun has gone viral.

The plastic firearm that can be churned out on a 3-D printer and easily assembled was downloaded at least 50,000 times Monday, according to the self-described anarchist who made it available for free online.

Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed, a collective of gun advocates, said the most downloads were done in Spain followed by the United States.

Why go to all the trouble

I don't think that many people will ever actually build this ugly and fragile plastic gun. What is priceless is that people like Schumer and Bloomberg HATE IT. They HATE something that cannot be controlled, registered and banned.

So if it's viral, where is an available download?

defcad.org appears to be overloaded...

The 80% lowers that you are referring have no serial numbers because they are incomplete. All it takes is a drill press and a jig to make it complete. That’s a lot less expensive than a 3D printer. I am not sure if there are any states that would require a serial number to be stamped on the complete lower. (According to the ATF it isn’t a lower receiver until it is complete. Any time before that it is just a hunk of metal, hence no FFL transfer.) I would think this below the radar for most state representatives, they are just learning the difference between mags and clips.

“Ummmmm, and the shells & bullets are made of.....metal.

Unfounded fear mongering”

The firing pin is also a detectable nail. ;-)

LOL I have no intent on buying a printer and making a gun but I might download the programming just to tweak the turds.

I believe it is a patriot's duty to do just that.

You have to register in order to download. In a few days it will probably be viral on some other mirror sites.

Not so. I successfully downloaded yesterday, after I think I clicked on cancel regarding register. It still allowed me to download the zip file.

If you choose to do it, download in a secure manner.

This is of questionable legality.

It is illegal. The ATF has very strict requirements about building receivers. If you home build a gun, you have to have an ATF builder’s FFL, and register the gun.

My local gunsmith and I were talking about building a 1911 variant for fun, and he looked into the regs.

I was under the impression you can build one for yourself, but you can’t sell it without the FFL. I have never looked into it, so I’m not surprised.

You are correct. One may build a firearm for personal use as long as you are not a prohibited person, and the firearm is legal both at the Federal and state level. You may not sell it, and a serial # is recommended but not required.

Using the Kansas law as a guideline and the gun does not leave your state where do the communists running the federal government get off having any say?
