The first downloadable gun has gone viral.

The plastic firearm that can be churned out on a 3-D printer and easily assembled was downloaded at least 50,000 times Monday, according to the self-described anarchist who made it available for free online.

Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed, a collective of gun advocates, said the most downloads were done in Spain followed by the United States.

LOL I have no intent on buying a printer and making a gun but I might download the programming just to tweak the turds.

Let them be angry and alarmed. It is not illegal to build your own firearm and as far as I know it never has been. Other than the degree of difficulty, what is the difference?

My neighbor has some nice homebuilt rifles. He prefers Enfield barrels from great britain but the rest is all his machine work.

The printer is only $8000, so friends could pool their resources and buy one. Since the inventor is from Austin, he was on TV demonstrating it yesterday. It looks funny, but it works.

Instead of the Liberator, the company should name it the Bloomberg.

Kelly’s biggest fear is that the gun — called the “Liberator” — will easily sneak past metal detectors and then onto commercial airplanes and into secure buildings.

Ummmmm, and the shells & bullets are made of.....metal.

Unfounded fear mongering

That’s awesome. I would love to hunt with a gun I made myself. But I’m a woodworker, not a machine guy. Carving a stock is as close as I will ever come to that.

He has someone else carve the stocks for him. He likes to leave them a little rough so you can see that they were hand carved. He’s a machinist/engineer by trade so intricate parts are no problem for him.

Damn...freedom is just so, well, so uncontrollable by government powermongers. They have to stamp it out wherever they can.

But the only way freedom can really be controlled is through the moral conscience and foundation of those who are free. That way it remains free...the government powermongers always wat to turn it into tyranny.

I’ll bet the “justice” department tries to prosecute the guy who made it available.

They’ll be about as successful stopping this as they’ve been stopping pirated MP3 files.

The leftists are fuming over this and are trying to figure out how they can ban the printers. They can’t. It will be fun to hear the a$$holes fuming.

This may actually be an invention that completely blocks the gun grabbers.

Why go to all the trouble, you can still buy them assembled.

It is still possible to easily build from components an AR style rifle. The machined receiver is the registered component I have read. You could until the gun grab find the un-machined castings for that too. And I have read it depends on what state you live in if it is illegal to have one without a serial number.

The left is really wetting their panties.

If I had to, I could build a functioning rifle with a lathe. Do not need another project. hee hee hee

“I’ll bet the “justice” department tries to prosecute the guy who made it available.”

If they do that, more people will get interested and work on the design anonymously. His website had a fake DOJ seizure notice for April Fools and it attracted lots of attention.

The idea is already out and there’s not a damn thing they can do...
