Buddhism comes from India as well.
The Western notion that the Dalai Lama speaks for all Buddhists is about as dumb as thinking the Pope speaks for all Christians.

The Buddha did not issue an order to not kill he said "refrain from killing." The principle of non-aggression is more accurate than "non-violence" in regards to Buddhist precepts. Don't start nuthin' won't be nuthin.' For an example, unfortunate as the outcome was, the Tibetans most certainly put up a fight against the ChiComs and many who fought were lamas and monks.

In Burma it has something to do with ethnic nationalism, even tribalism. The Muslims are associated with Bangladesh and (strangely if you know the recent history) with India.

That is part of their M.O. When their numbers become large enough, look at what they do in France and other European countries. Eventually, they will openly burn churches, monasteries and rape and murder non-Muslims like in Egypt.

I would take exception to a couple of points. The Generals in Burma have, for some time, controlled the Sangha in Burma to promote aggressive feelings against ethnic minorities, especially the Karen Christians, in the mountains on the east of Burma. So Buddhism has, as the writer states, been twisted to the interests of the government.
However, the Muslims are invading from an overcrowded and starving Bangladesh. The want the farm land traditionally held by Buddhists. The original spark, if I recall, was a brutal rape and murder of a young Buddhist girl by five Muslims. It’s been back and forth after that with neither side acting well.
The press has been 100% behind the Muslims. The Muslims are out to conquer Burma with UN backing.
So why have monks been using hate speech against Muslims
Since what the BBC would consider “Hate Speech” would be reciting all the inconveint parts of the quaran, well most of it anyways....
Heck in the Uk, Hate speech would be giving a mooselimb a blank disapproving stare....
