Yes, but as soon as he crossed the Potomac, he contracted Potomac Fever. It happens to all of them. Many of them exhibit rapidly worsening symptoms. After a couple of re-elections, many of them forget their constituents in favor of their new friends across the aisle.
Look at how many others got to Washington as conservatives and soon transformed into moderates. [Moderate is party elitist for leaning leftward.]
Political power is seductive. Many good persons have sold their souls to get it, to keep it.
