Suicide rate quadrupled under Obama Presidency

More Americans now die of suicide than from car accidents, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a disturbing statistic that some experts say points to the true depths of the US economic crisis.

In a letter to The Lancet medical journal, scientists from Britain, Hong Kong and United States said an analysis of data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated that while suicide rates increased slowly between 1999 and 2007, the rate of increase has more than quadrupled since President Obama was elected to the Presidency in 2008, Reuters reports.

Citing the nation’s severe economic recession as having a direct connection to the rise of suicides, Aaron Reeves of Britain’s University of Cambridge, warned that politicians are partially to blame.

“The increase does coincide with a decrease in financial standing for a lot of families over the same time period.”

In 2010, 93% of all pre-tax income gains went to the top one percent of the American population, which in that year meant any household earning more than $358,000.

Meanwhile, preliminary research suggests that the risk for suicide will unlikely subside for future generations.

“The boomers had great expectations for what their life might look like, but I think perhaps it hasn’t panned out that way,” said Julie Phillips, an associate professor of sociology at Rutgers University. She warns that the number is actually even higher. “We know we’re not counting all suicides… It’s vastly under-reported.”

In 2010, there were 33,687 deaths from motor vehicle crashes and 38,364 suicides.

Although suicide has been traditionally viewed as a problem among the youth and elderly, the recent study, published in Friday’s issue of its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, shows a marked rise in the number of suicides among middle-aged men and women.

This may be connected to the fact that middle-aged individuals who find themselves out of work find it severely more difficult to find employment than their younger counterparts.

The suicide rate for men aged 35–64 years jumped 27.3 per cent, while the rate for women increased 31.5 per cent, from 6.2 to 8.1 per 100,000.

Among the male population, the greatest increases were among those aged 50–59 years, (from 20.6 to 30.7). Among females, suicide rates tended to increase with age. The largest percentage increase in suicide rate was observed among women aged 60–64 years (59.7 percent, from 4.4 to 7.0 per 100,000).

The pandemic of suicides seems to respect no political or cultural divisions in the United States, as two of the hardest hit states were the vastly differing localities of Wyoming and Hawaii. In conservative Wyoming, suicides jumped 78.8%, while liberal Hawaii witnessed a 61.2% increase.

What more can we expect from Nobama?

Every mentor he has ever had, every friend he has ever had has looked to Lucifer for inspiration.

Suicide and abortion are sacramental gifts to their god.

“soetoro very pleased. Anything that kills Americans is desirable to him.”

I believe you hit the nail on the head. For those of us 60 and older who have lost jobs, re-employment is almost impossible. I imagine he’ll factor in those suicides out of the SS and Medicare “benefits” by saying he is cutting costs.

Obongo promised that he would”Fundamentally Change This Country”.I guess a lot of people aren’t too happy with his”CHANGE”???????????????????????????

Think things are bad today on May 4, 2013? Just wait until his signature piece of legislation - OBONGOCARE - kicks in on Jan 1, 2014 and millions lose their health care and/or have cuts to their salaries and hours worked. All HE** is going to break out. Here's hoping it's the big one - let's have the wake up call we are all waiting for and get this over with.

Is that why they gave him a second term in the WH?

My parents were young, but lived through WWII also, escaping the Communists and the Siberian death camps. My father’s family spent a short time in a concentration camp. They both know too well the horrors that the anti-Christian, anti-normalcy, anti-middle/upper class resentments breed.

Within one generation, the Communists are back in FULL charge and swing. My parents have always been very positive people, but whenever we talk about what’s going, over lunch, they’re really worried. To say the least.

When your only value is materialism and the money stops rolling in and you lose material you spent your life slaving to secure, plus you don’t see a hopeful material future under a racist, immoral socialism machine... Humanism, a Marxist world view, is shallow and devoid of self awareness, spirit, and all that makes us human. If you do not love the life of others, why would you value your own life?

In hard times only God, friends, family, love and humility pull you through. We are not what we own or what important job we hold. We are not our beautiful or ugly bodies.

In addition, all those little boys fed Ritlan their whole lives stunts their emotional development and they get depressed in their teens. To “cure” that they are put on anti-depresents and suicide is well documented when it is fed to young people. Everything about our culture today is dispiriting, dark...poison to the human soul. Many are taking a walk on the dark side and don’t even know that there is a light side.

I have to confess to battling clinical depression since Zippy came into office. I'll never understand his appeal to far too many people. It just feels so hopeless at times.

I just wish the damn Republicans would grow a pair and fight the son of a bitch at every turn.

Hang in there Marathoner. Remember, it took a Carter to get a Reagan in office. We have to believe the pendulum’s going to swing back.

I have 7 grandchildren and right now life is just grand for all of them. They all have stay at home Moms and Dads with terrific jobs. They live in great towns and go to good school. When Zero if finished in 4 years I really wonder what they’ll be facing and with Hillary lurking on the horizon...God help us.

I don't have to wonder. History tells us what to expect and it will be a nightmare beyond comprehension. There is a distinct possibility that you may end up burying some of your grandchildren.
