Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) isn’t the biggest supporter of Vice President Joe Biden’s self-protection advice unless you’re protecting yourself from angry birds.
While speaking at the NRA-IRL Leadership Forum part of the 2013 National Rifle Association Annual Meetings in Houston, Texas the Republican mocked Biden for his recommendation to just fire a shotgun in the air.
“I have to note, by the way Vice President Joe Biden did have some very helpful advice on this issue,” Cruz told the crowd on Friday. “You know, he said if your house and your family are ever under attack, all you need to do is go outside with a double-barreled shotgun and fire both barrels in the air which is very, very useful if it so happens that you’re being attacked by a flock of geese.”
The Texas Republican also challenge the Vice President to an hour-long debate on gun violence and ways to solve it.
I would like to invite the vice president to engage in an hour-long conversation and debate, How do we stop crime,” he said, to applause from the audience.
Cruz added that Biden should “welcome the opportunity to talk” if the facts were really on his side.
Biden indicated this week that he was continuing his push for gun control legislation, even though he hasnt really discussed it with President Obama yet.
They don’t work too bad on two legged varmints either
Biden is an idiot, capable of making idiotic comments on any subject that echos through his hollow head.
Joe has given a lot of very bad advice on self defense, but that doesn't mean a shot gun is only good for waterfowl.
What a great line!
So Joe...you are threatened and fire both barrels in the air.
Isn't there an old saying somewhere about shooting fish in a barrel?
Biden probably knows nothing about guns but he lucked out and was not too far off in his statement.
Many shotguns are excellent defensive guns. In some situations they are probably the best choice but only in those situations.
Not if you shoot into the air.
Someone suggested a Mossberg 500.
Biden’s shotgun advice will get you thrown in jail after you are raped by your assailant laughing at you running out of ammo shooting at stars.
Joe’s advice “is go outside with a double-barreled shotgun and fire both barrels in the air”. That pretty much takes away it’s utility as a short range weapon. But you might bring down a bird or two. Yep, I think Ted got it just about right.
Well maybe if I’m attacked by a team of NBA thugs.
He forgot to tell ya to turn it around and beat the guy with the stock I guess.
Well it could happen.
I did not realize he had said to fire both barrels in the air. Yeah he is stupid alright.
Cruz is a blast!
I like him...
Birdshot will do.
A shotgun is a worthless defensive weapon if you follow Joe’s advice and fire both barrels in the air. BOTH barrels. What does Joe do next, talk his attackers to sleep? :)
On the other hand, from what I’m hearing out of the NBA, I might just have to shoot through the door to avoid being man raped. LOL
LOL! That Joe, I bet he’s always forgetting stuff!
And he just sat there watching her with a touch of a smile while she ranted.
He is really good at it. Really clever and good self control. A lethal weapon.
True but they also want to outlaw tactical shotguns.
Collapsible stock, pistol grip, too many shells in the magazine, short barrel.
The typical hunting style shotgun is not very useful in cramped quarters such as a hallway.
LOL thought of Dunk Hunt immediately after reading what Cruz said..you know, with the leftist idiocy going on now..if Nintendo had a dunk hunt game with a gun the media would go nuts..I still have my Nintendo, with gun..one of the best games ever made
Looks like there is an actual adult in the room.
There is at least one man in the US Senate with the Right Stuff.
Yep. A 12 gauge hi-brass has about four times the muzzle energy of a .44 magnum, and the longer the barrel the better.
Slow Joe meets blind squirrel.
Those body guards for Michail Corleone when he returned to Sicily, Were carrying short barreled Luparos. I think both were Berettas. They each had a sling.
They are very short and handy since they have no pump or automatic action to add 3 inches to the length.
If they had auto ejectors they would also be very quick to reload from loose shells in your pocket or a pair of shells carried between your fingers.
Cruz is interesting. Just hope he fights back and doesn’t go all tv Hollywood like the palins did. But he better be worried most about rove and the GOP, not the dems.
I think the point that Cruz was trying to make is that Joe said to shoot UP IN THE AIR, which was why he referred to 'waterfowl'.
He invites them to his secret underground lair in the basement of his house.
Yes, but SBS is a class 3 firearm. 18” is the minimum legal barrel length for people without a class 3 license.
And they want to outlaw the type of shotgun that features 18” or 18.5 inch barrels.
An idiot, but not to the people of DE!
Ted takes it to Biteme.
Most cities have an ordinance against discharging a firearm within city limits. If there is no body on your property YOU will go to jail. Saying I fired a warning shot won’t cut it unless you are on good terms with judge.
Let’s not forget, what goes up must come down (learned that at a young age squirrel hunting).
But Biden said to shoot the shotgun into the air not at an assailant.
Biden also suggested firing blindly through doors.
Ted breaks out a can of sarcastic whoop-ass yet again. If Cruz had been debating Biden last year, instead of Paul ‘Homo-adoption’ Ryan, this clown wouldn’t have been smiling by the end.
with a 12 gauge its even easier....
Know what you mean. When I was in Austin a few years ago on the 4th of July there were some idiots shooting in the air and I had the shot OO buck land on the roof. Found them in the rain gutter in the morning.Stupid fools.
THIS is how one defeats progressives... THIS is how we use alinsky against them... and this is the man.
