Rhode Island on Thursday became the nation's 10th state to allow gay and lesbian couples to wed, as a 16-year effort to extend marriage rights in this heavily Catholic state ended with the triumphant cheers of hundreds of gays, lesbians, their families and friends.

more:

Once consigned to the political fringe, gay marriage advocates succeeded this year thanks to a sprawling lobbying effort that included support from organized labor leaders, religious clergy, leaders including Chafee and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and hundreds of volunteers. Their efforts overcame the opposition of the Roman Catholic church and lawmakers including Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed, who voted no but allowed the issue to come to a vote anyway.

Perversion is celebrated.

Marriage can only be between a man and a woman.

They need to stop calling it legalize. They didn’t legalize anything, they wrote a law to force people to accept sodomy as marriage.

Uh... it's not a "heavily Catholic" state if this abomination was allowed to get passed.

Unless Catholics, of course, approve.

It is the diminished mentality of the leftist to pervert the meanings of words. Marriage, that word specifically from the beginning of this flesh age meant man and women. And Christ did warn ...Remember Lot’s wife. These that decided to take this journey are going to be screaming like stuck pigs...

A majority of Catholics do support same sex marriage. The Roman Catholic Church doesn't, but since when do most Catholics pay attention to church doctrine on these social issues?

You know, once I was against same sex marriage. Recently I have had a change of heart. Two men can love each other very much. I tell my dad how much I love him and he always offers back how much he loves me. Yes, it could be because of the Alzheimer’s, but we get along really well.
I’m all for same sex marriage now, cause you know I love my Dad and want to marry him. Those 100 sections of land I would inherit as his partner have nothing to do with it. We love each other and want to be happy.
Now if I can just get Mom to stay out of it, things would be grand!
Do I really need the sarcasm tag?

At least this 10th state joining the degenerate fag parade is like the nine others before it... states I would approvingly support seceding apart from, and happily bid them adieu, straight to hell.

True. Bastids. I swear they are destroying this country. However, I am even MORE disgusted by the 3 states that passed gay marriage through the voters...they are even WORSE!!!!! But all 10 states will lead the destruction of the United States. Can you believe it, we now have 20 percent of the country’s states involved in gay marriage.

These extreme liberal states can continue to legalize same sex marriage but in the eyes of God Almighty a marriage is only between a man and a woman.

It’s sodomy, it ain’t marriage. We at least should do marriage the honor of using the word properly.

This is marriage in the same way that a man who chops his dick off and gets estrogen boobs is a woman.

As a Catholic from Massachusetts,I have to agree with you!

I often wonder if it's STILL Kennedy worship here.(I can't speak for Catholics in the rest of the country).Maybe it's the pictures of JFK still hanging in the dining rooms...next to those of Cardinal Cushing,of course, that lead me to this suspicion.

You have no idea how many "catholics" in this past election voted for Liz Warren, (granted Scott Brown was no prize himself),justifying their vote with the reasoning ,"That senate seat is a KENNEDY seat!"

Trying to talk sense to any of them is an exercise in futility,as they have their two main political talking points memorized from birth:

1)"Democrats are for the working man",

and

2)"Republicans only care about the rich",

and since 2008,a NEW,third talking point has been added:

3)"You're only against Obama because he's black"......
