Brad Pitt's 'World War Z' $200 Million Production Nightmare Exposed
The Wrap ^ | Tue, Apr 30, 2013 | Greg Gilman

Damon Lindelof and Paramount have spilled the rotten tomatoes on Brad Pitt's "World War Z."

Incomplete script, an incoherent ending, massive re-shoots, millions of dollars in budget overages, and even a Hungarian SWAT team raid are apparently just a few of the issues plaguing Pitt's troubled production, according to Vanity Fair's June cover story.

According to "Lost" writer Lindelof, who rewrote the film's third act and spoke with VF contributor Laura M. Holson, the SWAT team was the least of the producing team's worries. After screening a first cut of Marc Forster's geopolitical zombie thriller, Lindelof said the ending was abrupt and incoherent.

Like the movies about aliens invading earth for the water.... do they not know how much water ice there is in the asteroids, comets and other planets? Why fight a war for it when we couldn’t possibly put up a defense?

If they want it to succeed, they need to hire Bruce Campbell.

Hail to the king, baby.

Sounds like this article is more about promotional heads up to the public that the movie is being shot and will be coming out.

Anyone that has worked in Hollywood realizes one of two things. One that few productions anymore are tightly shot on time and budget—especially the larger the list star or perceived audience demand.

Secondarily most all film adaptations are rewritten by a MULTITUDE of the best talent of writers in Hollywood. Akin to ‘everyone has taken a stab at it.” I once worked on a major adaptation written by one of the best novelists of all time (who was still alive at the time) and there were at least three of the top screenwriters in LA that were locked away to do a rewrite on each others job (simultaneously of course--but not always haha) It took years to get just the script in a state for shooting.

Usually non logical endings are clear in the writing. So guess no one really bothered to truly look AT and READ the script until after the film was edited. lol.

Like I said no new news here. Tells you one of the reasons film are so long now and the budgets are astronomical.

There are several good books in the genre, D.J. Molles in particular are excellent...
I never thought I would get into these kinds of books, but I have read probably 20 of them so far...

Should have been a mini series, but no Brad Pitt wanted an action movie that bearded little resemblance to the book.

Really liked the book too. But this movie is apparently nowhere near the book. In the book, the pandemic gets a slow start and takes over a year to develop. In this movie, it literally seems to happen overnight. Also, the book is told from the perspectives of many different people after the war is effectively over. In the movie, its a “wise” UN bureaucrat who saves the world. Please......

I’ll probably see it anyway. But my expectations are very, very low.

Yeah and not a one of them has figured out that a silenced 22 makes a whole lot more sense than a 44 magnum or crossbow.

It goes beyond that. What about armor or shields? It seems to me that they could encase themselves in armor from head to toe. Given that the opposition's weapons are limited to hands and teeth, heavily padded clothing would constitute effective body armor. Instead of knives, they should have spears or swords. For a serious number of humans to succumb to the zombies, they need to be candidates for the short bus. It's pretty obvious that the humans on the show have also been infected, but with a virus that makes them stupid.

In the comics, the characters evolve with the way they dispatch the walkers - they make choke points and dig trenches with spikes at the bottom, etc. Towards issue 100 or so, Rick comments that killing the walkers is much easier than dealing with regular people.

I found the book to be loaded with practical “take-aways” on how to survive a societal collapse. I enjoyed it thoroughly, and many parts of it still come to mind today.

Particularly the story of the family that went north to camp in the woods and ride out the winter. How it was a great little community of people just camping out, but then more and more came and the problems got worse because none were prepared to survive. After, she comments on the sponge-bob sleeping bag frozen under the ice and says something like “What were these parents thinking? What was the cold-rating on this sleeping bag...a heated living room sleepover?”

Incoherence?

That hasn’t stopped many other movies from being produced.

Many start out sensible, but turn to the ridiculous about half-way through.

Of course, Hollywood only has so many scripts that they revise and rename.

I’ve never understood the Walking Dead phenom.

Shhhhhh. It is just a soap opera with zombies as a backdrop to make it appeal to a male audience.

Why not a techno thriller that allows the last christian holdouts left on earth that have taken refuge underground in Antarctica for several decades and chance upon secret Third Reich weapons so far advanced many speculated Hitler gained some form of alien technology.

And these last Christians on earth battle an Islamic domination globally, they program a nanobot that targets Moslems first off, the device causes any person praying certain Islamic phrases to go into a 3 day coma. That is just a warning.

Any moslem screaming “All our snackbars” or similar wordage has an immediate and uncontrollable heavy dose of diarrhea.

A black hole develops at Mecca and it basically disappears.
And then eventually billions of robotic insects fly around globally everywhere looking for any words about Islam and then attack by burrowing into the persons skull and exploding.

Islam dies along with about a billion people, peace then develops, mankind is free again.

And don’t forget the “treadmill defense” - you can use them to power generators at the same time.
