Businessman and former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez on Tuesday won the Republican nomination to run in the state's special election for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by John Kerry.

Unofficial returns showed Gomez defeating former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan and state Rep. Daniel Winslow.

In the June 25 special election, Gomez will face the winner of the Democratic primary between U.S. Reps. Stephen Lynch and Edward Markey. Results from that contest hadn't been tallied yet when Gomez won.

Gomez is a newcomer to politics. He's the son of Colombian immigrants and learned English in kindergarten. He became a Navy pilot and SEAL, earned an MBA at Harvard and launched a private equity career.

Kerry resigned from the Senate to become U.S. secretary of state.

The special election will be the state's second for the U.S. Senate in four years. Turnout was light for the primary, which was overshadowed by the deadly Boston Marathon bombing.

With the voters that infest massatwoshits, that fool Markey will be their selection to soil the U.S. Senate. The DNC elektion controllers will see to it.

It’s a shame Gomez will lose. He sounds like a great American.

That would be great if a Republican would win Massachusetts. Wow!

Bleed that commie Markey dry. Hit him with everything legitimate including his record for supporting various communist “united fronts” on Vietnam, anti-defense, etc.

Don’t give an inch. Don’t make any major mistakes. Get your facts straight and then shoot straight. The truth can hurt even in Assachussetts.

Market is such a hack, I am not sure he is a shoe in. We put Scott Brown in. Nothing says we cannot try, try again.

At one time California used to vote routinely for Republicans to statewide and national offices. After the late 1990’s they’ve voted for nothing but Democrats to all political offices and look at the crap hole it is today. Crapachusetts isn’t any better.

Gomez is a POS. Markey will be the next senator. Attacking him as a communist will get him more votes from the largely communist electorate there. Massachusetts deserves him. Pathetic state.

I concur. Didn’t vote for him, but all he had to say is he is for gay marriage and some voted without looking any further. This in MA and can’t wait to get out of here.

We won’t. No way, and even if we did, he isn’t a Republican, not really. Lines up quite well with the Dems. I voted for Sullivan, he was the best of the 3 IMO. Knew Gomez would get it though.

Personally, I think SEALS, as with Marines, always remain a SEAL. Once you’re a Marine, you’re always a Marine. There’s no such thing as an Ex-SEAL or an Ex-Marine!
