Famed death penalty foe named to Tsarnaev defense team
CBS News ^ | April 30, 2013

Posted on 04/30/2013 5:01:44 AM PDT by Rennes Templar

The defense team representing the Boston Marathon bombing suspect got a major boost Monday with the addition of Judy Clarke, a San Diego lawyer who has won life sentences instead of the death penalty for several high-profile clients, including the Unabomber and the gunman in the rampage that injured former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Clarke's appointment was approved Monday by U.S. Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler.

The judge denied, at least for now, a request from Miriam Conrad, the public defender of 19-year-old suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, to appoint a second death penalty lawyer, David Bruck, a professor at Washington and Lee University School of Law.

Tsarnaev has been charged with using a weapon of mass destruction during the April 15 marathon. Three people were killed and more than 260 injured when two bombs exploded near the finish line.

The suspect's lawyers could renew their motion to appoint another death penalty expert if he is indicted, the judge said.

Tsarnaev's brother, 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, also a suspect in the bombing, died after a gun battle with police. Their mother has staunchly defended them, calling the bombing allegations against them lies.

Katherine Russell, Tamerlan Tsarnaev's widow, is not a suspect in the bombings and has not been charged in the plot. However, FBI agents met with Russell at her parents' Rhode Island home Monday to collect a DNA sample, CBS News correspondent Bob Orr reports.

Since it was his first offense and he's a young minority victim, let's just give him five years, and call it good.

The DHS hollow point bullets are for Americans who
abide(d) by the Constitution.

This Obama tyranny is for, and run by, terrorists
and criminals. There is not an iota of abiding by
the Law or the Constitution as they deliver WMD to
terrorists worldwide and say, “Come on down.”

Five years might be too much for this sweet little Muslim boy who was just crying out the only way he knew against the eeevil US who had brought him here and spent over $100,000 supporting him and his “increasingly spiritual” mother...

Right. And let’s not forget his boxing-brain-damaged-brother who unduly influenced him.

The fix is already in.

This was apparent when a federal judge made a special trip to read him his rights... effectively shutting down the FBI’s investigation.

Make no mistake about who is defending this terrorist.

The skinny little maggot won't last 3 days inside.

Same goes for that bomber kid, too.

You thought $100K was wasted on this pond scum? Think how much San Diego lawyer Judy Clarke is getting paid by the taxpayers to represent him! $100K is chump change.

Well, hopefully they succeed in keeping him alive so stupid little girls can continue to have their crush on him.

Wouldn’t want to break their hearts by executing him.

she will successfully get rid of the death penalty because they did not Mirandize a US citizen right away and as soon as a Judge waltzed in and did give it to him...he shut up.

his confession will be thrown out

(yeah, I already know about the public safety exemption)

I understand that constitutionally he’s entitled to legal representation and that the government has to provide it if he can’t. But I don’t think that he should be entitled to the attorney of choice if he isn’t paying the bill. If this Conrad is getting paid then it should be at what a federal defense attorney would be making, not at her normal rate of a bazillion bucks an hour.

I may be wrong, but doesn’t the prosecution have to ASK for the death penalty in the first place? Who exactly is going to do that in this case? I assume liberal Mass. doesn’t have it. That leaves it up to the Obama/Holder DOJ - yeah, right.

“But I don’t think that he should be entitled to the attorney of choice if he isn’t paying the bill.”

By virtue of the Obama/Holder paradigm, he now has certain privileges other criminals don't, the first being he is a criminal.

I’m guessing that the people who had their limbs blown off by this little shit and his freeloading terrorist brother will not have “defense teams” of their own to represent them.

If it goes anything like the Ft. Hood trial the defendant will die of old age before the proceedings get started.

These attacks are condoned and supported by Obama’s silence. He plotted with the muslim brotherhood for 3 years to overthrow mubarak. WHAT ELSE DID THEY TALK ABOUT... Why did the muslim brotherhood have white house permission and ok to review the FBI and CIA terror training manuals... and remove anything offensive to sensitive muslims? OBAMA IS ONE OF THEM AND SUPPORTING THEM.

He’s starting to realize his appeasement methods aren’t working, but he is still beholding to his brethren Muslims, so he has to continue to support them. Hopefully this will be his downfall.

Which is something they wouldn’t do unless they were trying to hide something.

The first “person of interest” now turns out to be related to Bin-Laden, and his name appears on White House visitation rosters... and NOBODY has yet to explain how he sustained injuries. What are the odds if he wasn’t involved?

Even with every conceivable government handout these guys were on, I don’t think that would have afforded them the level of lifestyle they were living.

The Saudi was supporting them.
