George W. Bush: Great President, even finer man

Eric Golub

BURLINGTON, Vt., April 29, 2013 — The George W. Bush Presidential Library is now living history. The Southern Methodist University campus will house some of the most important documents spanning one of the most consequential periods in American history.

Mr. Bush, affably known by nicknames “43,” “Dubya,” and “The Dub,” entered office after a disputed election. His first few months saw him ram through supply-side tax cuts that turned around a slowing economy he “inherited” from his predecessor. Despite a NASDAQ collapse of over 90 percent, Bush did not spend one minute complaining about his circumstances or blaming anybody else. He rolled up his sleeves and went to work. His promise upon taking office was to “restore honor and dignity to the White House.” After eight years of endless scandals during the prior administration, he did exactly that.

On September 11, 2001, radical Islamists from al Qaeda hijacked American airplanes and flew them into the two World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. A fourth plane destined for the White House was diverted when brave passengers took the plane back. United 93 would crash in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. New York was ground zero of a war America never asked or. Yet after almost four decades of presidents unwilling or unable to take the fight overseas, President George W. Bush launched a Global War on Terror.

He left office with toxic poll numbers, but has seen a revival as Americans come to appreciate and respect the hard choices he made during the toughest of times.

The left always hated him, felt he stole the 2000 election, and never gave him the decency and respect that an American leader deserves. Yet an honest look...

Thanks. Funny that, for all the whining we see about the U.S. becoming a banana republic, there are FReepers who wish the process was accelerated.

But Obama ran against Bush. And McCain ran against Bush. And then Obama ran against Bush again. And Romney ran against Bush.

Congratulations! Brilliant caption...perfect for the photo!

From PJ Tattler:

And the Grand Prize of priceless PR goes to smoothsailing with a hilarious caption perfectly depicting the “conversation” and facial expressions of both George and Laura.

Bush : “Laura, why is he looking down and reading?”

Laura: “Because I spray painted his teleprompter, Dear.”

Congratulations to smoothsailing! After a few more winners you too could achieve “Caption King” status.

Thanks again for playing along and we will see you all next time a photo is worthy of a Tatler Photo

Good piece.

George W. Bush is the best president we’ve had in the last 23 plus years. He had to respond to an attack on our homeland and he responded to it forcefully and with honor.

Those who say he is responsible for the president we now have are blinded by their hatred of him. We now have the Muslim sympathizer president because of John McCain and the Republican establishment.

George W. Bush was a good president and is a fine man.

Bullshit. A majority of American voters is why we have Barack Obama. Similarly a majority or pluralityof American voters elected FDR, JLBJ, Jimmy Carter and William Jefferson Clinton. Such is life when you live in a socialist country.

And Bush ran against none of them. See how that works? I understand that it’s human to blame someone else . . . .

The point is that Obama could have been stopped from ever running in the first place if George Bush had upheld his oath to defend against enemies from within.

I love George Bush. People hate me because of that but I don’t care.

Fine person, and had respect for the dignity of the White House. But an establishment NWO GOPe type who built the security state car. Obama sat down and turned the key.
People confuse willingness to go to war with conservatism. W was no conservative.

No ammo today?

Funny you'd mention that, I went to two of my favorite gun shops tonight, one actually had .223 and 5.56 ammo in abundant supply. Also had plenty of 9mm and the ever popular for plinking 22LR.

Bought 500 rounds of 5.56 at 45 cents a round today. Try finding that price online. (Last I looked, best price was still over 70 cents/rd - if you could find it.)

Talking to a few of the folks who worked at one of those gun shops, they're saying the last few weeks have seen a slow down in the run on ammo right at a time supplies (at least for these two shops) is starting to increase.

Hate? No. But to overlook Bush’ failures to stand up for YOU - yes, YOU, and all of US, with his tepid new tone, is to over look perhaps the second most important job of a President: the use of the bully pulpit. He really SUCKED at that.

George W. Bush, terrible president, lover of Big Government and member of a political dynasty. Anybody who repeats the phrase “doing the jobs Americans won’t do” 60,000 times while he was president and creates a federal domestic military force that buys ammo by the billions isn’t a fine man.
