Jeeze Louise. Don't they have anything better to do that this?

Buying lots of X is a sure way to INCREASE the supply of X. Even the gubmint has figured that out.

I wonder why they need so much too, but "taking it off the market so the people can't buy it" is not the reason.

I’ll be happy with that. The day I can get 10,000 rds of 22LR for about 3-5 cents around. Or 5,000 rds of 9X19,223/556, 45ACP and 380, 45 COLT, etc.... for way less than a dollar a round.

Next time deals come up on these in bulk, I’m gonna stock it up and stop playing this “find the 22LR game.”

Right now, it’s working in reverse. The DHS commits to buy how many billions of rounds of 9mm and you can’t find 9mm anywhere (although, CTD has a 50 rd box of foreign stuff for $69-it was $79, for example), when and if Walmart gets it and you’re lucky enough to be there you get it for $15 per 50 rds.

GOP aims to look just different enough from the other party to keep getting your votes.

One explanation I read of the unusually high number of rounds used by DHS is that they allow boxes of ammo to be carried off by their agents for personal practice on their own time. If the military were to do that all hell would break loose.

In fact, it sounds like a neat little revenue source for agents who would play the system.

It also sounds like a neat little way to be unaccountable and ship large quantities of rounds to “Fast and Furious” type operations.

I hear you, brother.

I refuse to pay panic prices for ammo.

But, tell you what, once the panic subsides (and I’m confident it will) I *am* planning to slowly, methodically increase my inventory levels on every caliber I shoot by a factor of 10 over what I used to keep on hand.

Except that most ammo makers are relatively small shops. Ammo has a great shelf life, so ramping up and causing an over supply is a huge concern. Not to mention the equipment needed is very expensive, and after the bubble bursts they will be sitting idle.

That is why the ammo industry is very slow to react to these events. They have seen quite a few bubbles, and know the down side could kill them.

So the FedGov can, for the medium term, cause a massive hit to the supply of ammo. IF this was meant to be a political tactic, they will do this to limit ammo supplies before a ban.

Notice that is a big IF.

"GOP Aims To Slow Federal Bullet Buys"

Bullets are those little thingies launched by a firearms that travel through the air until they impact a target or eventually just fall to the ground.

A cartridge consists of a shellcase, primer, propellant powder and a bullets. Multiple cartridges are known as ammunition. The government purchases ammunition.

Bullets are to cartridges as flour is to bread as cement is to concrete, etc. When will they ever learn the terminology?

In terms of the current ammo shortage; it doesn't exist because of government purchases or ammo manufacturers making record quantities. It exists because of excessive purchases by civilian consumers buying far more than they need, for all kinds of absurd reasons.

We have met the enemy - it is us.

100% correct, but you'll never convince this crowd.

I want as much 45 ammo as I can get. I want to see it stockpiled.

So contrary to recent reports denying the stockpiling of ammo...even representatives are concerned.

Can we believe anything at all this regime says?

I was just up at the Bargain Barn here in Jasper Georgia...they had a whole load of about every kind of 45 ACP you can get. Over the last three or four weeks, I’ve picked up 10-13 boxes of 100 rd Winchester target ball ACP at Walmart, three at a time....

The 45s are coming back, the 22s and 9mms are much scarcer...

I live in Little ROck, AR, a few miles from the Remington .22 LR plant. I was there last week. They have ramped up to 7 million rounds/day in 4 shifts, 24hrs/7 days/week/359 days a year. With some adjustments and a new sorter, they can do 10 million rounds a day!

10 MILLION ROUNDS A DAY!

Where is the .22 LR ammo? In 300 days, they should have made more than enough ammo for the entire U.S.

Where is the .22 LR ammo going?!

My guess is guys like me. I got caught flat footed on 22LR. Minimal supply. Pretty good and the big stuff and the exotic. Real good, in fact - I have a respectable supply.

I didn’t catch the wave of the bulk buyers. The ones that got into every order system on line and choked up their system with backorders of HUGE bulks that they forced the suppliers to stop taking Back Orders. So we (the latelys) are all forced to wait for the B/Os to fill, and compete against the dribs and drabs of smaller bulks that make their way to the dealers. Like I said on another post, the first time I can get an order in for 22LRs in bulk, it will be at least 10,000 rounds. I’m not going through this again.

Nope. AndyYou’d be a fool if you do.
